I generally like towns with tourism... feels like there's more to living there, but there's a breaking point.

    You're pretty right.

In first, second, third and fourth grades, American children score on top of the world in standardized tests.

In the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, they score on average with the other industrial nations.

In high school, American children score in the lower portion compared to other industrial nations.

It really seems that kids are getting dumber the longer they stay in school.

People don't start producing much useful in this country til there like 37 and they shake off all the dumbening school gave them.

    Is dumbening a word? :D

Standardized is a politically correct term for mass produced education.

Standerdized testing might be annoying, but its nessecary to learn how education is progressing and to determine how best to allocate more funding for schools that are in need.

Well its obvious that many parents can't and in most cases shouldn't educate their children.

The kids need a public school, and the state needs to find some way to measure progress to determine what schools need the most aid.

One of my high school history books mentioned Mao Zedong as a 'young chairman of the communist party.' No joke. [IMG]

The funny thing is that some of our parents who can't educate their own children may be the people running the budgets and school boards... I mean, I'm sure as hell that our educations aren't worth $7000 per student each year, in my county.

And this is why I feel proud when my dad or his brother calls me a drop-out...

It's actually kind of amazing that you're who you are, Derek. :D

    Dear Derek,

Is this Mister Manning an alternate screen-name of yours? :D

Ahahahaha... :D All the threads on my front page say 'Lucifer Sam' under them.

Anyways, to chime in somewhat late, I would have to agree with teh Krystin most, perhaps because of my own personal annoyance with the waste that goes on in the minds of my fellow public school students. You simply cannot teach someone who doesn't want to learn.

As for alternative education, (something one of my not-so-brilliant state senators believes strongly in), I believe that to make students rely on sources other than public schools for a good education promotes nothing but inequality. Most of us have parents who work serveral jobs, who don't have the time to homeschool us by themselves, nor the money for tudors, private schools, etc. We deserve to have equal opportunity to learn, and if our leaders would like to suggest otherwise, they can be repaid with a personal castration from yours truly.

    Fin. :D

They should make smoking weed mandatory... I think that may solve alot of social issues here in the states. t could be worse. You could be sitting on a dirt floor trying to learn in Namibia.

Mr. america, walk on by the minds that wont be reached
Mr. america try to hide the emptiness thats you inside
But once you find that the way you lied
And all the corny tricks you tried
Will not forestall the rising tide of hungry freaks daddy!

One time I scanned my report card and made one with really really bad grades on it, printed it out, and showed my dad. He freaked out, It was great. The funny part is that the one with the bad grades could have been real and the one with the good grades could have been fake.[IMG]
