    1.) Jesus is the primary example of the standards of God's kingdom.
    2.) He serves people in his healings, his pardons, his feedings and his preaching, without seeking acclamation for himself.
    3.) He speaks the truth of God whether people favor him or reject him.
    4.) He refuses to lord it over others. As a result, he is persecuted by those whom he condemns.
    5.) In his execution, Jesus manifests the standards of the rule of God:
    6.) He is least in the society as a human being ridiculed and rejected on behalf of the kingdom of God;
    7.) he has relinquished power over anyone;
    8) and he loses his life in the service of bringing good news to the world.
    9.) At Gethsemane, Jesus is afraid to die, but his prayer reveals the orientation of his life "Abba, Father...not what I want but what you want."
    10.) Jesus is the opposite of self-oriented. He is God-centered for others.

    In the style of debate, I'm responding to your top ten signs of Christianity. Please consider the possibility of people living out active lives of positive and life-changing faith, because it really exists. It's happening right now.

    One of the best things I was ever told by a chaplain that is my spiritual guru is:

    To be a Christian, look to Christ, not the Christians.

    Now, I believe that a congregation is an intentional community of people who come together to worship, then share and participate in learning and (local and global) community service through their shared faith in Christ. This is not to say we're perfect. A religious congregation is full of humans; imperfect humans like anyone else, so we do act like hypocrits, dummies, blockheads...just like any other human.
    In other words, I think communal worship and life together is important because the Spirit is revealed both alone in solitary meditation but also in community...and also outside of the Church. If I really believe in such a huge God, actually, God is everywhere, even in the darkest places. So ultimately, I don't get as riled up about other Christians..or Muslims..or Jews or Hindus or atheists. Because my faith is in God; not people.

    "I like your Christ...

    I do not like your Christians...
    Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"

    Teachery probably isn't a word.

    I love hot springs. The first time I saw them was in Arkansas and I loved them. I wanted to jump in right there like into a warm bath, but it was the coldest winter they had had in ages...more frigid than PA, so I might of died had I done that. It wasn't worth the risk :)
