I just admited it in another thread, I "work-out" several times a week. In many other cultures and sub-cultures that would probably be concidered a good thing. However hippies may have other feelings on the subject. I must say two things in my defence... 1) I started the excercise to help take the place of a VERY NASTY addiction, and it had (so far) worked. 2) I would much rather me hiking in the mountains, but Ohio has none. I'm just wondering how ya'll feel about what I think of as "unnatural excercise"?
wouldnt this go in the "health" section? unless the excersise you get is sex? either way it is a good thing surely?
I'm sure your right, sorry I sorta feel like excercise is related to body image which is related to sex. If someone can tell me how to move this thread I will.:&
But i mean hippies do excersise. The Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead used to be into Baseball. Lifting Weights and things, being buff and getting a tan is all just as hippy as being a lazy couch potato.
Don't feel too self-conscious ... hippies have a lot of sex, and the body is an important tool in that pasttime ... if you don't keep your body properly maintained, it might not be as great.
sex is the greatest excercise i am getting at the moment, im not worried about having big muscles and looking tone. Im not over weight or under. I do construction work, and thats enough to keep you in shape.
Thanks for tying in sex and excercise for me! I bet that there has been one or two other misplaced threads in this catigory LMAO at myself, To hell with self-consciousness! In my funny little brain EVERYTHING I do is related to sex and/or sexuality. Maybe its cuz I recently turned 30yrs. and I just want to get in as many good sexual encounters as I can before I'm pushing up petunias. Over dramatic? thats me!
your body is your temple, treat it with respect....there is absolutly nothing wrong with excersise it can make every aspect of your life more pleasant...personally I think smoking a bowl after a work out is one of the best high's (and after sex of course)...and it also increases blood flow and the production of endorphins so on average you're level of happiness will go up... ...I think our species has been active and excercising until couches and cable tv come along so I think its more unnatural to be a couch potato
who's to say what you should or shouldnt do!!??? besides, there are no hippies here, just a bunch of open minded people.
Well, now you're starting to make sense! It's your body, your health, your life. Why in the world would you care about what other people think of you working out? If you really want to think of yourself in terms of the label 'hippie', then you won't have any self-consciousness, unles it is consciousness of self. But why aspire to a corporate media pigeon-holing label? Just be YOU. You're the best person for the job. Free weights and exercise machines are replacements for the labor jobs that have been mechanized. If you dug ditches for a living, you'd be working out. Go ahead and arm-wrestle a steel worker. He's (she's?) working out. If you work in an office, rigorously shuffling papers, then the ol bod needs a bit more muscular stimulation and, in the absence of climbable hills, pushing around some iron will do. Not to mention the horizontal bop (and there is another tie in to Love and Sex).
Thanks luvndrumn, ZePpeLinA and tiki_god7 I was hoping this thread would kinda just go away, since I couldn't figure out how to move it and it seemed to be misplaced. There is a fine line between feeling and looking your best, and vanity. I hope never to cross it. I was curious where other free thinking people who resist the mass media standard of beauty draw that line. If my primary goal in excercise is to look my best (for me and my partner), have I crossed it? Thats why I put the thread in "Love and Sex" Oh, tiki_god7, I actually like to smoke a little right before I excercise, then with some good up tempo tunes (Rusted Root works well) I'm totally into it.
good on you. using something healthy to overcome an addiction is good. Just dont take it too far and allow working out to become a new addiction.
smoking before the work out.....I had a friend that loved that...I couldn't do it, once I got high the couch would start looking more comfortable then the weight bench and the remote a lot more managable then a bar bell...haha
Man, ain't that the truth......when i changed from manual labour jobs to office work i really felt the difference to my health.....it only took about 6 months before i realised the now-sedate lifestyle was really fucking me up (i like to smoke, am not overweight but my diet is never usually totallly healthy). I lift weights, takes two hours a week.....get a few long walking sessions in..occasionally get the pushbike outa the garage...it don't take much doing and it means that everything else, from grocery shopping to cleaning the bathroom is so much easier 'cos i got that bit of strength and stamina from exercise.....a bit of time invested in exercise prolly makes the rest of the humdrum life a hella lot easier imo as for the "label image" fuck it......i ain't huffing and puffing with grocery bags every week just cos i don't fit anothers preconception...
