Am so sorry for the loss of lives and devastation that has been caused by hurricane Katrina, and i send my condolences to all who have been affected. Hurricane Katrina has done what many environmentalists would have counted on to bolster the continued drive to reduce greenhouse emissions. Most definitely a storm of such magnitude points to nothing other than the effects of global warming, and the fact that industrialised nations -especially America- have been adamant to sign up. its time people realised that safety comes before profit. The free market is singly the most dangerous human activity ... what do you think? At the moment what would you think about China and South east Asia? Should our safety be at the alter of the profit ?
In the history of the earth, there have been thousands (if not millions) of storms just as, and more powerful than Katrina was. Damn those dinosaurs and their nasty polluting...
mcnugget brings up a very good point. There have been storms for a long time. There is no proof that industry is warming the planet. Actually, many scientists are not having much of it. The earth cools down and warms up all the time, this is nothing new.
And by the way, even if we are ruining the planet with CO2, Kyoto would have done NOTHING to stop it. If/when China, India and other countries become signatory to Kyoto we'll talk. Until then, it's about transferring jobs and money out of USA to Europe and China, which is what this is REALLY about.
I'm hoping there is a bit of humour in what you are saying, and I hope and pray that you do not really beleive this is what is important. Because it is that attitude of we won't care for this planet untill others do first which is holding "saving the planet" back. I doubt whether it was OUR fault that Katrina happened but we cann't say our polluting is not having an affect which probably is having an influence on earth which is already causing death around the globe. Pss; does anybody know anything about the burning coal mines or underground coal fires that have been burning for decades - in India , the US and China-, there was such a programme on the BBC but i missed it?
