ACTUALLY, it's MahatmaMantan, Pabsty. "drama"? Mama, you brought the drama in on own your expansive ass. I was merely debating Tex's notion of corporate sell-out "hippies at heart" with simarly ludicrous images. I find the idea that corporate lackeys are in actuality "hippies at heart" as amusing a concept as Bush spending 15 minutes with the Russian President Putin only to emerge to announce that he'd gazed into this man's heart and determined that he was "good".
well now that the format is a little more condusive to a debate and you can overlook the occasional spelling mistakes... i can disagree with you... Texas Rob was in fact talking about his own personal experience and not 'corporate lackeys' and for the life of me i cannot see where in that post h mentioned Bush? but you chose to misread his original post... perhaps if you should like to re-read it you might realise your error.
Because being a hippy means more than enjoying weed, voting democrat, and listening to Jerry Garcia; just like listening to shitty rap music and wearing baggy clothes don't make a kid a thug. The part that defines hippies is the freedom of living outside mainstream society, of doing what they want, and being an accountant hardly fulfills that. I'm not saying he doesn't believe in peace or in free love or whatever, just that it's pretty pathetic to follow labels in general, and claiming to follow one you don't even fall under is even worse.
Spooner.. you really needed to quote my entire post and not just a small part of it.. then you will see that in the main we agree.... what we do disagree on is that an Accountant.. Lawyer etc. is incapable of fullfilling such a criteria.
I'm only as tiresome as you are toothless. Why not just ignore the images I post? Texas Rob does a much better job at debating his point than you do defending it.
OH COME ON YALL HE IS JUST LIVING IN THE PAST,, REMEMBER 5 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS ON THE PICTURE KICK?? PERHAPS HE HAS A NEED TO BE NOTICED SO HE CHOOSES TO PLAY WITH ALL THE LIL EDITS THESE FORUMS ALLOW.. I PERSONALLY THINK IT MAKES HIM LOOK LIKE A CHILDISH MORAN,,BUT IF HE ENJOYS IT I GUESS ITS HIS RIGHT..ALTHOUGH ITS A BIT PATHETIC ..
if i ignore the images you post theres nothing left there to debate.. they are devoid of any debatable comments?... it is good in life that people have different viewpoints.. and all posts in this thread have something interesting to say... but your pictoral statements have no substance. My intention is not to defend Texas Rob.. i am sure that he is more than capable of defending himself. My intention is to put forward my viewpoint and my interpretation of his. Texas Rob may disagree with me entirely. that is not the issue..
My god you're a gabby old gal ain't you? Let's revisit post #12 - I think my opinion was clear: I hear what you're saying. Kinda like that guy who was interviewed on CNN Friday night. A swell guy. Probably thinks of himself as a self-proclaimed hippie... down in the Crescent City "doin' his own thing". He'd gone down to New Orleans to help folks out. He told CNN that he was a licensed psychiatrist. He was down there to counsel the deranged, the damaged, and the socially decimated. To hammer his point across he had a GLOCK strapped to his hip, cowboy style. A FUCKING GLOCK! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME SELF-PROCLAIMED GENTLE HIPPIE-PROFESSIONAL? A Glockmeister? What life lesson was he out to impart? "If at 1st you don't succeed - blow their fucking brains out!!!!" Ohhhhh well... He not busy being born is shit outta luck:
If you really care that much, I'll analyze your entire post. First of all, extreme liberalism and 'hippy' aren't synonymous, unless you're trying to imply that all extreme liberals are hippies. Also, 'extreme liberalism' is not a set of values, it's a political view, one that cannot be taken into the corporate world. Corporations exist to make money and that is all. And how exactly is an accountant going to make huge policy changes and moral decisions at his company? Lastly, I called an accountant who wants to be a hippy a tool. Calling a spade a spade isn't offensive, it's truth. Only someone who desperately wants to be something besides a spade names it bigotry. 'Hippy' isn't just a word, its an entire subculture. And what makes a culture? Well they not only share values, but also modes of dress, a vernacular, and a culture. Saying you share the values (which I'd call a blatant lie considering the tone of your post) and ignore the rest but are still a hippy is like me saying I'm Irish because I like beer. It's just flat out not true. And from the way you type, I'm suprised you can fuckin' read. Ever hear of punctuation? It makes you sound like you made it to junior high.
Well said rob. I remember fifteen years ago when I cut my hair for a better position, an engineering job, and all my friends called me a sell out. I was shocked at my deadhead buddies for being so short sighted and no better that anyone else judging by appearance alone. Going incognito does allow for one to listened to more so than one of us with dreadlocks spare changing in the park. For those out there who think you can't be undercover in society and are merely a "tool" have no real life experience. I've been able to keep my kids fed and enjoy life. I've found myself now, turning 40, able to grow hair again and am enjoying myself. I would not be where I am today without doing what I did. I own acreage with our small organic farm on it, have five kids, owe the bank nothing and generally have a great life. I would have to laugh at anybody calling me a tool. To me the corporate world was a tool for me. A tool that made me money while I engaged in intelligent discussion with others and hopefully made a difference in their way of thinking. As a friend of mine used to say, "We're still hairy on the inside.
You're right. Only the coolest people try to brag about themselves on the internet. Lets be honest here: I don't give a shit about your hair. I just think that changing your appearance and losing your values (because the corporate world is based on exploitation, after all) is a career ending injury in terms of hipness. But being pretentious enough to keep insisting you're a hippy afterwards is what makes you a fuckin' tool.
Hey Texas Rob-I worked for 32 years in The telecommunications field and my hair was short. I left it years ago and then grew my hair back and now do other stuff for a living. But many a time I would be in a meeting and looking around the table you still would know who was and still was a Hippy!. As you know long hair or what you do for a living NEVER made you a Hippy. Yes-I worked in the straght world but my last project in Telecommunications was to net work the entire NYC Board Of Educations Schools so the kids could access the Interent and use it as a tool for their education. So we are out there still in many walks of life and the way to change this country is to work in the belly of the beast. Peace The Wiz
Oh and as far as being a tool? We all are in ways. A tool can be used to build or destroy it's up to who's using it! Peace
Thanks for the post Wiz. I was really surprised at the level of opposition to the notion that a "Corporate Hippie" was legitimate. It may not be cool, but most of grew up and our focus changed. We continue to seek peaceful change and we try to instill tolerance and respect in our children. Good luck on your new endeavors.
Your very welcome Rob-I agree with free in Alaska in that we used the system to our advantage. I pretty much exploited any Corporation I worked for all the way into Wall Street. It also felt good doing it too. Now I live in Woodstock own my own Drum Company (with Drums from Africa) and spend my days hanging out and partying my ass off with my 19 year old Fiance. I will never cut my hair again and spend my time now supporting many different causes for the Arts and Healing. I have not owned a Car for five years now and have a bike in support of trying to clean up our dirty air from the people who insist on driving around in 4 x 4's and drinking beer all day and ranting! BTW Hippies years ago very rarely drank beer or hard stuff-IT SUPPORTS THE BIG COMPANIES that THEY say we are WHORES OF! I have to laugh at a guy who has his own hair short-drives a pick up truck and gets hammered all day while putting OTHER people down. When you point a finger at anyone three point back at you! In my Hippy past I marched with DR King in The South and had my head split open at The Chicago Democratic Convention. I was at Woostock 69 and have some great memories. BUT what we have to all do is put the past behind us and what a HIPPY is and work together in the upcoming dark times that face all of The Hippies on this site. No matter what length your hair is or what you call yourself. It saddens me that so many YOUNGER Dudes on here are so angry and spend their time attacking others-save it for the upcoming times. Direct it at our so called leaders who must all be taken out of power. That will be done with the know how and help of many who have worked in the beast we call Corporate America. If I gave you all a stick it would be very easy to break it-If we put all of our sticks together in a bundle and wrap them in the INTENT of HEALING this Country that rapes the world we can make it! Americans no matter who you are UNWANTED now in many places in the world. If we want to change anything we have to clean up our crap here at home and work together as one. Not setting lame ass ideas of what COOL is and who is cool. If ya ever up North Rob drop by to Woodstock and hang with us. You got Soul and will be a Hippy no matter what your hair looks like or how long it is-It was like that years ago. Look at the pics of Woodstock. Most of us did not have long hair at that concert. But we all hung out-and had a great time. No one JUDGED then-if people don't judge you really never have to forgive. Peace Bro The Wiz Oh and BEFORE anyone says it-YES my SPELLING and GRAMMAR SUCKS! Like I really give a shit!
