Is Lawernce Ferlingetti still running a book store in the Haight/ashbury disrtict? He used to hang w/ alot of the beat writers in the 50's and 60's? And also,...can anyone recommend some good reads from some of the beat writers?

I don't think so but I can't be sure...I used to know his daughter when I lived in Seattle and I thought she mentioned him living in LA, although i could be wrong.

Ferlinghetti still runs City Lights in San Francisco. It's in North Beach, not in Haight-Ashbury. I very much doubt he lives in Los Angeles or even likes to visit there that much.

When I was last there two years ago he was working in the store. I didn't piece together who the kind old dude who chatted with me for 20 minutes was until I was back at the motel.

Yeah! That's what it's called! I couldn't remember the name of the shop. But was it ever in Haight/Ashbury? Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me.
