to want to build myself a pair of wings just to wear when i'm in the mood? and does anyone know how i might go about it? constructing wise...
JOsie you could buy wings for a tenner at Glasto... so I wonder if they'll be selling them at Beautiful Days? Many people were walking around with them so you're not on your own in being weird I'd like some sparkly wings

ok the moth wings were made out of sticks, withys and bendy metal. start by making a cross which will be the part of the wings that fits on your back...this needs to be really strong so if your making it front sticks, double them up here or use thicking bits of wood and secure them tightly with lots of bendy metal this is the base...then you need to make the main structure of the wings...for the moth wings i made the base cross extend out by fastening extra long, thin sticks to each of the four bits of the cross. i then worked from these long sticks, using each one indivually to build a wing upon.... i added two sticks either side of each main long stick and two short sticks at the top to make the end close...oh man this doesnt make sense does it? think if like a kite shape.. yeh build a kite shape onto each long stick...with lots of sticks crossing horizontally over the main long stick sumthin like that...just use lots of bendy metal to secure it all...the ones i made jaz were all sticks and metal so became quite heavy...this means using more metal to make sure they dont fall apart...i just tied bits of random fabric onto them to give them colour. when the wings where made...i plaited strips of fabric to make tough straps and tied them onto the main wooden cross (the wooden has to be really strong) the other wings i amke are made with the same cross base but each wing each fixed and sewn between two sheets of thin foam material...i have metres of this material, i found it at a scarp store and its great. you basically just cut out the shape of the wings you want and make a corss to put in the middle and so theres a stick going through the centre of each wing. then i machine sew the sticks into place and sew cool materail over the foam...theses are really easy and take 30 mins to make... this isnt a very good photo but if you look carefully you can see a stick running through the centre of each wing...its sewn under the fabric, does that make sense? and then you just tye ribbon to the centre cross to make straps coz these wings are really light. hope this helps..sorry if the moth wings construction description doesnt make any sense! its realy hard to explain without doodles and hand gestures love luchi xxx
thanks a lot luchi... i'm thinking big-huge-looking-like-bird-wings wings... like your's that jaz is modelling...but not as wide...cos i'd need to be able to get through doors/on buses and stuff... and not like butterfly/moth wings...you can buy them easily and they look a bit poor...
yeh you would look like a bit of a nonce in butterfly wings im liking big n huge and bird like..are they gona be feathery?? that would be maddd...keep us updated dude
