my friend has a young outside cat that used to be a stray. a little while ago we noticed that she had a pretty bad wound on her neck that looked like it was probably from a fight. it cleard up but recently there have been new wounds on her neck and we can't figure out what they're from. i think that she itches her neck a little more than usual but i'm not sure that's the cause. the wounds look like she's being skinned in spots around the sides and bottom of her neck. the skin's usually not broken or it's first layer looks like it's been rubbed off. they only appear on her neck. i'd really appreciate any ideas about what this might be. oh yea, and they live outside of town.
Hi My mom's cat starts to scratch and lick his fur out this time of the summer every year. It's so gross and he looks so uncomfortable. She's taken him to the vet and they said he just has senstive skin and they gave him a shot, which did nothing. Then, a cat lady told her that cats get something called "Cat lice" this time of the year and to wash him with Head and Shoulders, which helped quite a bit. You should take your kitty to the vet first though.
hmmm....could be flea allergies? some animals get bad reactions to the bites and will loose their hair scratching at the area so much(once the fleas are gone the problem clears up on its own)...although i believe that ususally that type of thing is commonly on their backside....a vets opinion would be ideal.
damn... well see it's like she's just this stray that hangs out at this house and shares food with the other cat (who isn't considered a stray) so ... taking her to the vet is kind of weird... and we're poor, heh... it's fall here but maybe she does have fleas... but it's just around the bottom of her neck in small patches, maybe 3 of them. they're deep enough that they probably bleed a little at some point and the better looking ones look like she's just been shaved there. thanks for the flea idea, i'll check that out.
if it is fleas....(even if she is not allergic) they are VERY VERY VERY uncomfortable and you could always treat her with Frontline Plus to take care of the problem. Try and get her to the vet if you can.....strays need love to there is a stray hanging at my house but she wont come near me. she will let me get close enough for her to sniff at my hand now but if i try to pet her she freaks. she just had two still born babies in our yard the other day. it was only a week before that i noticed she was preggers. but shes eating well at our place and in love with my cat beaker (he loves her too) and if i cant keep her (which is what i want to try to do) then i will take her to the spca to be adopted.
we got her a flea collar. she hates it but i think she's getting better. if nothing else, it acts as a guard. thx
hate to say it but flea collars dont do a damn thing. the fleas merely gravitate to the animals backside. so if fleas are the problem the collar wont help. also, if she is an outside cat she shouldnt really be wearing a collar as collars can get caught on things like branches and choke the cat. there are collars that detach themselves and break off should they get caught, but they dont always work.
