do you grow a mother (female plant) to specifically clone or get cuttings from and then replant so you can have 10 or 15 females of the same plant. Is that how that works or am mistaken?

    Sorta.
After determining the sex of a plant, take cuttings off a female. Not actually a "mother" (since we're not talking about reproduction) but a donor.
A female donor plant kept in veg can have hundreds of cuttings (clones) taken.
After many clones have been taken over the course of say a year or more, the donor plant often loses vigor. At that point it's time to make a new donor plant, and you can bud the prev. donor plant out. You'll get a lot of small buds from her.
