I upgraded to XP Professional from XP Home, and then when I put my Ipod into Itunes it cleared all my songs, any ideas on how to get them back? Also important, I always delete my music off my hard drive after I put it on the Ipod.

Your iPod only keeps music that you have on your computer. It mirrors your library. If your library is empty so is your iPod

Yes you can transfer your iPod music back to your hardware, although there is a security layer apple coded in, but there are still applications that can void that layer, use this app http://www.ephpod.com/.

To alter your iTunes playlist without changing the songs on your iPod, make sure you set your iPod settings to manual not sync, read about it here. http://macs.about.com/od/ipod/a/copy_from_ipod.htm
