~*why yes indeed.... as an artist i can't help myself to be creative with almost everything that i do!! that transpires into the clothing that i enjoy wearing and creating to the food that i eat grow and prepare. i do not take part in fashion or ideals to be stylish, but i take care in choosing what i wear or how i braid my hair because i love to exert my creative vibes! my doing so creates positive ripples for the good! i respect and love you all no matter what you look like ~ it IS more important to me how you feel man... on the inside. whatever get you through the night is alright*~

I have to disagree w/ you..I do care about how i look to others..i think it is important..i'm not gonna go out to a job interview wearing my bell bottoms, tye dye and hemp..no way...not the time or the place...i also care about what i look like general..i'm not going to go out to eat wearing pajama's and have greasy hair..that's just disgusting...it does matter how you present yourself to others..and i do not think that there is anything shallow about that at all......

~*eep! i DO go out to eat with greasy hair!!! heehee. it matters to some how you present yourself to them, it does matter to some how they present themselves to others. thats cool. when in a situation i wish to show respect for others who do care, i do not mind partaking in their custom of appearance. i would not leave my shoes on if it is customary to remove them at the door. so perhaps my response to this thread does not entirely rely upon my creative nature, but that as well of my caring one to present an attitude of respect through my behavior and dress as well.*~

Shoot, even animals care what they look like. Those females won't just mate with anybody you know.........;) He's gotta be the peacock with the biggest, brightest tail to get some.

It's how we display our health, our personality. We don't have to say a word to make a first impression, good or bad.....

in a perfect situation, the outer self is a projection of the inner self.

You know that bad blind date line "he/she has a great personality?" that's inner beauty.

now FASHION is about fooling people into thinking you are something you might not be. Fashion is a paint job on a house, and the condition of the structure may vary.

It is shallow to BASE a relationship on appearences, but I think Cuan was pointing out our own obsessions with our own looks.

I fuss with my hair constantly, not like I have loads to do with it, if I based my perception of myself on that hair, that would be shallow.
I base my perception of myself on what I do, not what I see in the mirror... after all, we only see our physical selves in reverse.
