Isn't hummus just great? Don't you just loooove it? I like my hummus with pita bread, or whole grain brain as a sandwich, or on crackers!

Any hummus recipes anybody'd like to share? :)

I'm eating hummus and crackers right now, so good. :)

Never tried making it, just buy the ones in the supermarket. Really should make some, have a recipe and everything, just no tahini.

my fave humous recipe is as follows...
    1 can of chickpeas
    1 clove of garlic
parsley, about a handful of it chopped...you can use coriander as well and it is yum...
half a teaspoon of ground cumin
    half a lemon juiced
olive oil...probaly about three tablespoonsful but really as much as you need of this and the lemon juice to get the right texture
mix all of the above in a food processor until the texture and taste is just right for you
even my most avid meat eating mates love it!
    :)

it's just chickpeas (or garbanzo beans), midget, with some spices, lemon juice and whatnot. It's truly wonderful. It goes with like anything.. I eat it with carrots or crackers constantly.. yum! it's so addictive, but it's good for you, low in fat and everything. Definitely give it a try.. if you buy it at the store, you can get all sorts of kinds, but the original is really good as well - I suggest starting out with that, and then adding other flavors later on, but you really couldn't go wrong with any flavor you added to it.

In my house, in addition to the regular chick pea hummous, we make a Mexican hummous, and it goes a little something like this (we're not into exact measuring, so measurements aren't exact):

    -2-3 cups of black beans
-a couple spoonfuls of almond butter (or you can use tahini)
    -ground cumin to taste
    -2-3 cloves raw garlic
    -juice of 2 limes
    -handful of fresh coriander
    -one diced jalapeno pepper

Dump it all in a food processor and blend til smooth. We eat it over rice with fresh salsa, or it's also good as a dip with chips, smeared on tortillas, etc.

Wow... interesting question! I've no idea what you'd call them in Australia. They're smallish beans that look black or a very dark purplish brown all over, NOT with a black spot as in black eyed beans (or "black eyed peas" as we call them in the US). Black beans are ubiquitous in Mexican cooking...

Chinese black beans and the black beans used in Latin dishes are completely different. Chinese black beans are soybeans, usually salted, pickled, or otherwise fermented. Frijoles negros are of a different family entirely. See here:
