clean-looking dreads

I had dreads a while back and i took them out cause i didnt like how dirty they looked, i just ran into my friend at school for the first time since last year, and her dreads are really nice and clean and little, and i know she didnt go to a salon.. how do i get them that way?

 

patience, time, and a good shampoo... but she may have used wax or something to keep the frizzies down if you see her just ask im sure she wouldent mind. she also backcombed and mand very nice paterned sections

 

u said they were "little" do you mean short, or thin or both.

Im just curious because that would help to maybe determine how her dreads are as you say "clean" perhaps her hair was naturally natty and knotts quicker or as ryan said maybe she uses wax, or alot of tea tree oil.

her dreads are pretty thin.. but not too thin, its hard to explain..

 

My dreads are thin.... and it's kind of a bitch cuz they don't seem to matt as well. Also, the bigger dreads on my head are doing really good where as the smaller ones are having trouble
