    Howdy Folks!

Summer left for the gathering Thursday morning, my heart breaking with happiness because she was able to go home, and my heart breaking because I was not able to go this year.

In an effort to heal my homesickness I've been trying to gather news from the site and I'd like to share what I find out here. Add news as you will!

Hitchhiker coming back news~ Wednesday : Excelerated Cop and FS activity. What's new. Happens every year. Prepare. Have the car legal. Refuse consent to search til your face turns blue. Be smart. LEO activity drops off dramatically when the tide swells beyond control July 1 every year.

Nude-In Friday July 1st: LEO's have been busting bare family. In solidarity and to point out the ridiculousness of it all, a Nude In was called for July 1st. I feel this would have been best accomplished by calling for a nude in by all family members age 70 and over. Film at 5.

Hey! I just got back from Rainbow and the 4ums kitchen. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay long, but for those who are getting there late, they are located right in the heart of the gathering. Try to look for Fairy Camp, Popcorner, or Aloha camps. The 4ums kitchen is neighboring these sites. The kitchen has a wonderful hydration station (thanks to m6m) and is set up for some decent kitchen happenings. Unfortunately, we didn't end up doing a lot of cooking since we were surrounded by kitchens with amazing food and we kinda liked going around and hanging with the neighbors. I'll write more about the early experiences of Rainbow when I have a little more time. I'll also post a couple pics of the kitchen once I get the film developed and scanned.

    Welcome Home!

P.S. Have Hershedog_BananaCat hook you up with some baked apples when you get there. Either that or some of her coffee she brought up from her neck of the woods. Good stuff.

In the local pathetic excuse for a newspaper, here in Northern CA, it says that two men were beaten, one nearly to death, when they drove into someone's campsite at the gathering.WOW. Um, does anyone know more about this? Was this an A-Camp incident, or what?

Wow, that sounds really bad! I would like to think that it is just hearsay, at least I hope so.

I believe that incident, which occured before I arrived, did happen at A-Camp, but, once again, it did not involve any of the folk of A-Camp.

    BTW, I knew Harry Huggs.

    From the Modoc County Record

Shovel attack brings felony charges at Gathering

A shovel attack Saturday on two people at the Rainbow gathering has resulted in felony assault charges against Harry Eugene O'Neill, also known as Harry Huggs, 47, of Whitehorn, Ca.

According to Modoc County Sheriff Bruce Mix, the incident occurred Saturday evening when a vehicle was apparently driving too fast through the parking area.

O'Neill is alleged to have grabbed a shovel and smashed the windshield of the vehicle. When the driver, Kelly Cook, 44, of Brosnan, Texas, rolled down the window to find out what was going on, O'Neill allegedly hit him in the head with the shovel, causing severe lacerations. He initially opted to stay at camp and have the medical personnel there deal with his injury, but the next day was transported by ambulance to Modoc Medical Center.

Mix said O'Neill then struck Christopher Witcher, 47, of Round Mountain, Tenn., with the shovel. That victim was hurt seriously and was flown from the camp to Redding in critical condition. He sustained a punctured lung, ruptured spleen and head injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was still listed as critical.

O'Neill was detained by the Rainbow Family security, said Mix, and was arrested and transported to the Modoc County Jail by the California Highway Patrol.

with serious bodily injury and two allegations of personal infliction of serious bodily injury against O'Neill, who was arraigned June 22.

Sheriff's Deputies also arrested Mark James Blossom, of Minnesota, alleging possession of stolen property this weekend. He was found to be in possession of items stolen from the Adin Transfer Station, which belonged to the pay station attendant.

    An old journalist's adage.

I too know Hairy Hugs. The other reports said this Cook character was driving through the camp, not the parking area. If Hairy hit this guy, I can tell you without reservation, Cook had it coming. He would have to endangered kids and lives for mellow ol' Hairy to have reacted like that.

Hairy Hugs was the Grilled Cheese Man of Fort Collins for ages~ often giving away food to streetkids. He's famous for his beautiful Hugs and he glows~ all 6'6 of him. When a foot of snow fell overnight at the 94 Colorado Equinox Gathering, he housed me and other family kids in his funky old schoolbus. His dogs kept us warm and we left our blankets with him when we left the gathering, knowing he would get them to cold people. I have only known him as generous and kind.

There is definitely more to this story than Babylon is giving us. Unfortunately anti-Rainbows are getting some mileage out of it. I also feel very bad for Hairy. I'm sure he regrets his anger in retrospect, no matter the details. Please send him some love energy when you read this.

The Modoc Record did have a good word to say regarding the Gathering earlier that month:

"Reports from previous (Rainbow Gathering) events, including the one held here in 1984, are positive about the clean-up and rehabilitation of the ground when the gathering is over. The pledge to "live lightly" on the land is taken very seriously. " ~Modoc County Record June 2004

    Thanks for the link Turnup.

The reason that Harry Huggs nailed the guys is that he went off his meds and flipped out.

How Depressing! Assauts and stuff that sounds like it ought to be on the 6 O'Clock News.

The Silence on the morning of the Fourth was profound. 20,000 people in the Village and you could still hear the birds singing. There was a near emergency when word came over the 2-way radio net that a diabetic had become seperated from his insulin and was having a blood sugar crisis. Those of us with those damn squalky things plugged into our ears flew signs for insulin until some was found at the last minute. An evacuation vehicle was on the way to take the patient to the hospital while the insulin was headed there from another direction. The insulin got there first, but with all those people praying for insulin and world peace, how could it have gone differently? I did not stay in the Circle for the OM and breaking the Sience. I was too pumped up on adrenaline after the medical emergency, even though I didn't really do anything, to stand still and pray. I sat up on the rocks below GFunk and circled with everybody from there. Fine with me, as I am not fond of crowds. The view was spectacuar. I'll have photos up after I get them deveoped, if I can finger out how to do it
