he was a crazed fan....read the book "let me take you down"...I think thats what it was called, I read it a long time ago
He was psychotic, and after reading 'Catcher in the Rye', shot John Lennon. He also believed that John Lennon was a phony, or something along that lines. It's been awhile since I've heard the full story.Very sad..
I think he believed John didn't stand for what he was preaching. Pretty much what LizardQueen said he believed he was a phony. But yeah the real reason is the guy was absolutley mad and psychotic.
god probably instructed him too, all good revolutionary people are shot in this world. ghandi, jfk, mlk, etc etc...
well Lennon does say "shoot me" over and over again in Come Together. listen to the beginning very carefully... here's a link with Mark Chapman's own statements about how and why etc. he killed Lennon. it's pretty interesting but this man was obviously so mentally ill that he's barely to blame (IN A WAY): "In a statement recorded by police hours later, Chapman declared, "He walked past me, and then a voice in my head said, 'Do it, do it, do it,' over and over again, saying `Do it, do it, do it, do it,' like that." He called out, "Mr. Lennon!" Lennon turned to see Chapman, crouching combat style with both hands on the pistol. Chapman's statement continues: "I pulled the gun out of my pocket, I handed over to my left hand, I don't remember aiming, I must have done it, but I don't remember drawing the bead or whatever you call it. And I just pulled the trigger steady five times." Lennon turned to escape, but four of the five bullets tore into him. To Chapman's amazement, he did not fall but managed to run up six steps into the concierge's station. He said "I'm shot," then fell face down." http://www.crimelibrary.com/terrorists_spies/assassins/chapman/1.html
cause that guy said all revolutionaries are killed... i dont normally agree with DSK, but jfk was no revolutionary...
Yeah, Chapman was a messed up dude. As was mentioned earlier, the book "Let me take you down" is a good one. If you're interested in trying to understand WHY a little more, it's a good read.
I think it was because Lennon was starting a "cult" of hippies, and this guy was obviously against what John stood for and thought it would weaken the overall U.S. A so called communist party, and if he wasnt working for the FBI i would be seriously surprised.
well i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that it was because the guy who shot lennon thought the he himself was acually john lennon & he thought he was killing an imposter by killing lennon...like i said i could be wrong but i think that's what it was.
'Cause he understood that the 80's will be a decade full of shit records for Lennon and other Dinosaurs (even young star were often full of shit in the 80's). So He traveled to New York to finish the job...
i dont have any evidence or whatnot but i personally believe he was jealous and wanted to stop john from getting "higher" it takes serious jealousy and phsycotic beliefs to do that
none of you have it right.....Chapman was a huge fan...he lived outside of Lennons apartment for days.....when john didn't sign an autograph....he became very bitter, and the next time they met john was shot....
lennon was shot cause that psycho fan (we can pretty much agree he was insane) realized he could never achieve lennoness...its very hard to understand for people who have their sanity, so it comes pretty easy to me but its hard to explain. he was like this massive fan who tried to model himself after lennon as much as possible, but could never achieve it so he shot him. or at least thats what i've read. makes sense to me.
Oh there are so many different stories about that...the last folly that I heard was that John Lennon was a satanist and the Lucifer has taken him with the Chapman's help....completely rubbish The guy was just psychopath
