UK communes

hey, im looking for an existing or newly forming commune/eco-village type affair for myself, my husband and our son, i am soooo tierd of this existance, and i wondered if there were any UK folks around who feel the same. any comments will be welcome. thanks folks.xxx

 

i feel the same there! i'm in manchester, and i want to escape the city, escape what everyone goes through, and live with a bunch of like minded people fending for ourselves

 

I also want to do something like this, its a dream of mine.

I'm sure there are communes in the UK that might be of interest, but be careful about joining them. Be sure to research them properly first; and have a long think before making any commitments. You are still young, and personally, I'd wait at least a few years before thinking about joining a commune. That's just my two cents.

Starting one up might be more fun though, ay? Don't need many people to make it a commune. Need a fair bit of land to make it self-sufficient though.

 

I think we should just start our own...this is something i REALLY REALLY want to do, i am tired of my life...commute work commute sleep, that is all i do...i hate my job, i hate my way of life, and i really want to do somethin about this. We are hippies, we cannot go on living our lives on streets and in work. We need a place where we all work together...


If any of you guys are up for this it would be awesome...we just need to plan this thing, and ideally we need a spot in the centre of the country, so that people from all over the uk can find it.

 

Remember, we dont have to be self sufficient right from the start either. And i believe that the best way to start this commune would be with a few caravans...

it is absolutely unbelievable the ammount of effort i would simply LOVE to put into this...lets have a talk, all of us wanting to do this need to find someplace where we can make a chat room or somethin, and we need to get our heads together.

We cant just talk about this, we cant just dream, it is about time we simply DID! I am sick to the back teeth of my boring dull existence...and thats the reason you started this thread right??? we are sick of our boring everyday lives.

Like ive said, if you guys really want to do this, we can make it work

 

i am very up for it...im thinking in a few years time though, ive got some studying to do first, i dont want to live cut off from the world compleatly, but seperate yes, im training to be a holistic therapist...i'd like to be able to reach out to the community at large from our little haven.... start showing people how life could be, lets keep talikng folks. peace to y'all.xxx

I am in the process of going down this route, basically gathering funds at the moment and have been for some time now. My aims and vision are probably very different to most though (welsh speaking for one thing!), and I want this to be a permanent existance rather than just something "I tried when I was younger" IYSWIM.

It's not something you just rush into, Enigma - you are right to think on the timescale you are proposing. I'm thinking in a couple of years time too, though I am equally keen to ensure I don't put it off indefinently.

None of these really come close to what I want to do though, I can understand people wanting to create your own!

 

Right well we need a definate names of people that REALLY want to do it, and i suggest that those of us wanting to make this happen stay in close touch with each other...like e-mail, letters, morse code if you like heh heh.
So everyone who definately wants to do this make a post saying something along the lines of "yeah"

sorry but i'm a couple of thousand miles away but for what its worth, my advice is that you must meet each other. e mails are ok but face to face allows you to take measure of other potential members. i reckon you should agree to meet each other as a group, talk as a group and to each individual.
there will be people who work together well and those that don't. the main thing is that you learn from each other and listen to each other. from my limited experiences people who are shouting and telling people to listen to them and then refusing to listen to any one/ group voice except their own will be a problem. follow your gut feeling - ignore it at your peril. don't rush into anything as i said get a measure of your potential co-op. from my experiences with sydney's psychiatric patients, con men and those removed from reality i can say that if you don't go with your gut feelings you are going to have a wild ride. after all that i think its great that some people want to work together.

 

I agree although I don't think everybody who has posted in this thread wants to live in the same commune, etc. Or maybe they do ?!

yeah, i would have to agree on some fixed principles when i entered into it.
