Anyone else loathe the word "vegetarian" too? I can't stand it- too many damn negative connotations. Hell, it's not like we all go around eating salad and raw veggies all the time! People are always inventing new terms for groups, so why can't there be a better word for us without the stigma?
I've never had an issue with it. It's a simple enough word that most people understand. Honestly can't think of what else to call us. Just roll with it and disprove the stereotype. TTFN Sage
Vegetarian i don't mind, for some reason i never liked the word Vegan though and never use it, even though i am a vegan
Of course, vegetarians don't just eat vegetables. What do humanitarians eat? Ask somebody that next time (s)he gives you grief about the word "vegetarian."
No idea, but if you think about it all words are just random. A vegan can of course legitametly call themself vegetarian. As vegetarian just means 'someone who doesn't eat meat' which also applies to vegans. For some reason there is a lot going round about labels at the moment. Really can't understand the big fuss myself. TTFN Sage
i thought the word vegetarian orginally meant same thing as vegan now does ( as far as diet goes ).... but it got watered down
Vegan is a contraction of the original word (probably because you cut more food out). The connection is more noticable when people type "veg*an" as an inclusive of all forms.
