This morning i woke up from a nightmare , i had bitten into a meat sandwich -something i could never never do as a sworn vegetarian- and a thorn pierced my naked foot which bled profusely immediately afterwards, the pain woke me up i knew that it was a bad dream... Looking , at the earth today i wonder, are we human beings facing up to our ugly existence that spans centuries of abuse and misuse of the resources that have endowed the Earth? From the eartquakes in Asia, Turkey , Japan, to the recent tsunamis , drought and famine in africa and Asia, the fires in spain and australia not to mention hurricane Katrina and melting ice caps. To cut the story short am wondering whether the catastrophes of the Earth are mirror images of a self destructive element called '' Human beings''?!
There's no doubt that mankind's activities are impacting in a negative way on the global climate. But there have always been hurricanes and earthquakes. Perhaps our current way of living is ill-adapted to deal with such events. Humans have largely lost their connection with nature, and treat it with very little respect - then they get 'bitten'. There does seem to be a blindness in people - and a lack of appreciation of the fine balance of nature, which we are currently doing so much to disrupt. If there isn't some kind of big awakening soon, I think it will be too late.
