Ok so i saw this Great commercial on the Idiot Box last night. The commercial starts out with these kids out riding bikes and having fun. Then it cuts to this sentient blender in a kitchen and its getting excited because the kids are coming. The kids pull up outside the house, the blender is at the window cord twitching, and one of the kids pulls out this foil pouch with fruit smoothie flavored candy. The announcer says some thing along the lines of "Now with xyz candy you don't need a blender to get the real taste of a fruit smoothie!" The kids jump back on their bikes and head out. Meanwhile the blender looks rejected and angry so it kicks this bowl of fruit off the counter.

The Message behind the commercial? Lets replace good nutrition with super sugary, artifically flavored, Preservative packed candy! What a wonderful Idea lets teach our kids that candy is just as good for you as Fruit! True Marketing Genius!
What do you all think? any other commercials or ads along the same lines as this? Does it piss you off? don't care? what? Feedback Please.

I think you're reading way to much into one commercial.

its funny cause the government just came out with a 'diet' book.. so they profit both off of corperations that sell things loaded with sugar, and they profit off of books that tell people not to eat sugar. pretty neat deal

He's not reading into the commercial. He's reading into the marketing behind it. The fact is that these sugary turds sell better (to kids) and are cheaper to produce than foods with substance in them. These commercials turning people into consumer whores is part of the reason I don't watch tv. Except the simpsons, once in awhile, that's good.

Maybe you are reading too much into the commercial.
Is that such a bad thing though?
At least you aren't staring blankly at the screen taking in and believing all the crap being thrown at you.
In my opinion, that makes you more intelligent than the idiots who just go out and buy stuff because they saw a "cool" commercial on tv.

    ~peace~

Marketting can get pretty deep though. The people behind these commercials are paid to do their best to incite you to buy the company's crap, and there are a lot of little shifty things they stick into commercials and such that most people wouldn't even notice, wouldn't even think about, or read into. And they know full well what they're doing too ;).

I'm majoring in Illustration at school, and in my history of Illustration class, our teacher mentioned a friend of his that got commissioned by a cigarette company that they just left unnamed in the lecture. Anyway, as they were going through all the meetings, where the client lays out what they wanted him to do and all, what their aim was, who their audience was, this guy got really uncomfortable with it all as he realized more and more as he was working on the pieces for the project, that this was aimed at kids. He gave up a TON..a fucking TON of money because he had more respect for people than to do that, and he basically in a nice way told them to take that job and shove it. But I'm sure they got some other artist in there who cared more about the money. But yeah...they have a product...they don't care if it's good for us or not...they're just trying to sell it, and make their money....and they'll use the best tricks in the book to make the STUPIDEST, or like in this case, most unhealthy products look like such a GREAT buy to the average person....and they're generally successful depending on how much money they have to throw into the project.... (cause hey, I don't think we're talkin' informercials here ;))

Kind of reminds me of the tobacco industry. They raise the sin tax on cigs and people stop buying them. So the companies profit drops. The government steps in and subsidizes them with taxpayers money! It's a win win situation for them and a lose lose situation for the rest of us!

The governments (I think any countries government) is nothing more than a corporation. And like any corporation, it wants the most money possible. So anytime you see a government sponsered program look down the line, follow the money, see who ends up with the profits. I bet each time, you will see it is the same people who are making the recommendations and voting on laws governing these same programs. They are the ones undermining the environmental advances and legislation that started them back in the 70's. Look who is actually making the most from the agri-businesses. Why are pesticides that were once outlawed/banned back in use. Never think the government is for ALL the people. It is only for the elected (hahaha) people inside its walls.
