Maybe this doesn't belong in the psychedelic forum, but it may be related. On Friday, I partied it up pretty hard and got shit for sleep. On Saturday I worked 5-10 pm, so I was pretty beat by the end of the day. When I got home, like I often do when I'm sleep deprived, I stayed up really late for absolutely no reason. When I was checking my email, the most fucked up shit started happening.

I started getting auditory hallucinations. It started with this high pitched tone I heard in my right ear - there was clearly nothing causing it. It sounded like something spinning, and its volume kept changing. It was very distinct and unmistakeable. Now let me say something: it was not pleasant or cool in any way. It was nothing like the cool visual disturbances I get when I'm high or tired. It was fucking scary. And I wanted it to go away.

Luckily it did. But when I got into bed and turned the lights out, more shit started happening - when I was quietly talking to myself about something (I think aloud), I heard this copycat sound at the end of each sentence. It sounded like a metallic scraping sound, and was pretty short. It happened once, and I thought it was just some noise from the house. But then it happened again. So I just started making short noises, and sure enough, somewhere around ten times I heard the same wierd noise every time I made a noise.

At this point I was profoundly freaked out. I curled up against the corner between my bed and the wall like a child just awoken from a bad dream. I made a conscious effort to ignore it and make it go away. Then I started hearing what sounded like heavy metal music playing from underneath my bed. It sounded very menacing. I half expected my entire visual field to collapse into a collage of chaotic hallucinations. I kept hearing sounds from around my house - which may or may not have been real - and then it all kinda went away. Then I had no problems passing out.

Please don't make fun of me or anything. I really don't think it was anything caused by psychedelics, simply since it was so incredibly opposite the nature of any psychedelic drug I've ever done. It was probably sleep related - but I've been sleep deprived before, and nothing like this has ever happened. I've already resolved myself to hold of the drugs for the next week at least. My family doesn't have any history of schizophrenia (or any mental disorders that I know of). I don't know why I'm sharing this, except for maybe I'd rather not tell anyone I know about it and this forum is always a good place to talk about fucked up shit anonymously.

When I've had hardly any sleep for ages, or mostly no sleep, I hallucinate, I walked round my house and started seeing cannibis leaves everywhere at one point, and heard people on the stairs and stuff when I knew the house was empty. Then one time I saw the front door open, and I reached to close it, blinked, and realized it was already shut.

It's damn weird, scary because it ain't any drug doing it, it's your natural brain...

That's exactly it. If I was on a drug it'd be no big deal because I'd know it's only temporary, but when your own brain starts doing shit like that, you don't know it it's going to last forever. I'm better now though. Never had anything happen to me like that before.

I've recently been having problems with insomnia and staying up for two days at a time. I haven't been taking any drugs because of my economical situation, but sometimes when I know my body and mind are really tired, I start to feel like I'm coming up on mushrooms (or at least close to that). I feel a sort of pot-like buzz coming on, the walls start to "breathe", and all sorts of crazy things happen out of the sides of my field of vision. A few times I've heard noises that I suspect were caused by this, but typically I get more of a visual hallucinogenic experience. Last year I was tempted to do sleep deprivation tests on myself but have decided against it, seeing how dramatic the effects of sleep loss can be.

Well, I used to be a very severe insomniac. I've gone over 72 hours with hardly a wink of sleep before.

What you described sounds like me after over two days without sleep.

    Delerium.

The first "hallucinations" I get are auditory. I hear things and see things in the corners of my field of vision. They come and go, but the longer your awake, the worse they get... at 65+ hours.. I may as well have done some DXM or something cuz I was fuckin out of it.

Best thing to do in that circumstance is to regulate your breathing with nice deep breaths, and either clear your mind of thought (meditate) or just think of something pleasent and ignore the terrible things going on in your head.

    Then get some sleep.

for sure man its the sleep. and even if you're not that sleep deprived, it could have a lot to do with how much deep sleep u get. if you party too much and don't get enough sleep, you could spend most of the night in dream sleep, which is still conscious. deep sleep is different, and is the most relaxing and the part of sleep that literally charges up your body. when you wake up groggy and tired all day you probly haven't had enuf deep sleep. so, just take it easy on the drugs that keep your mind so active and get a good night's sleep. maybe a valium or xanax if its really necessary. or try tylenol pm, kinda silly but it really puts you out if u need it

I used to get night terrors. But I never had any memory of them. My parents would often find me screaming about an old man or something on the bathroom floor, but when they told me about it the next day I had no clue what they were talking about.

If you want to get sleep deprivation type hallucinations, all you have to do is take about 750mg of diphenhidramine. So fucked up shit will happen when you do that.
