I had The Gay Parade but I was underwhelmed with it compared to Apples In Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, etc. Are you into any of the other Elephant Six bands?

hell yeah, they're one of my favourite bands that are making music today. The Sunlandic Twins is fucking brilliant, one of the best albums released so far this year.

Yeah a lot of people say that, that OTC, Neutral Milk Hotel and Apples are the *best*... I won't disagree, they're great, I own everything by Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel, but ever since I heard Of Montreal, they became my fave, before, it was Olivia Tremor Control. I still love them though... the thing is, I didn't wanna get the Gay Parade because it sounds just like Olivia Tremor Control, not much of a difference... I wanted something more original, different.. know what I mean?

Very sunshiny and full of quirky changes so far...very good

I can`t believe anyone would say that The Apples are better than Of Montreal! It`s totally absurd! The Apples are a pop band who did one really good album and a lot of polished but really straightforward pop albums before and after. They never really tried for anything more.

I like OTC a lot more, but the narratives tend to get lost in the sonics.... so by the time it`s over, you`ve completely lost the plot.

So please don`t let anything prevent you from hearing `The Gay Parade`, Penny. It truly is a masterpiece. In fact, through the narrator Claude Robert, played by Kevin himself, it holds together emotionally and narratively more than any other album I have ever heard. After that, they followed it up with a `sequel`: Coquelicot Asleep in The Poppies... sort of a `night` album to The Gay Parade`s `day`. And it`s just as brilliant!

They`re my favorite band of all time.

I love the last song on that album, "Keep Sending Me Black Fireworks." That's one of the single coolest songs that I've ever heard.

My problem with The Gay Parade was that all the songs sounded alike-- they were all this bouncy childlike super-cheerful piano music. Nothing at all like OTC.

Satanic Panic is the Of Montreal album that really sticks with me...full of good tracks...really turned me onto to lighter psych-pop like Brian Wilson stuff. I love all the references to the lsd-induced state. But I would hesitate comparing them to Neutral Milk Hotel. Neutral Milk's brand of inde-pop seems a bit darker, chord-laden, and enigmatic than Of Montreal's. Honestly, I think Neutral Milk is in a class of its own...if only they would make more music.

    WHAT?
Are you saying that `Jacques Lemure` sounds the same as `A Collection of Poems About Water`? No way! They`re totally different...

And I guess Satanic Panic is their most immediate... but I really like the lyrics better in the earlier songs. They`re more upfront, and deeper.
