Is this the same god that sent a flood to kill everyone on the planet? The same god that sent a bear to kill some children because they made a joke about someone's baldness? The same god that sends everyone that does not suck up to him to eternal damanation hell? Sure sounds like an asshole to me! UPDATE: Ah, I see you got there before me IronGoth - good show (now watch her try and dodge that)
When Christianity is about how Jesus loved you so much he went through the Passion (cue the SNUFF FILM) it's easy to reduce it to black and white - accept that gift God loves you. Look into it and you're like "wait - he's God. Why torture himself? Why is VIOLENCE, especially hideous violence, the solution to everything?"
Because violence, alas, is in human nature - and as man created god in his image, this violence has been imprinted onto him.... shame really
SeaHorse, We all have many things to learn, the nature of life, the nature of our soul requires us to learn; this applies in the most unusual situations, for example people having better logical arguments but missing the reality of a intuitive insight of another person in a discourse situation, this person not having full realization of their intuitive insight yet and attempting validate their insight through a logical argument with aim of "proving it to another" or "just getting them to think," no doubt this can be gratifying, no doubt this can be "pain-filled." And contained within this pain or gratification are the things that stoke us to advance, to learn, and by no means does it imply that the oppossing argument is correct, entirely correct or that it recognizes the above mentioned intuitive insight. Logical argument, respect for other peoples beliefs and compassion are some of hallmarks of what will make our societies better and bring peace to our world. Spirituality is quite often the supposed aim of religion; what of the Pharisees, what of the millions of murders in the name of religion, what of the murder of Jesus the Chirst ? Next time a 'Chirstian' or any "Believer," Athiest or Agnostic tells you jump off of a cliff ask, obviously from your perspective, what might this beautiful, amazing, creature Jesus have thought ? Ask me how 'I know' some of what I state above and I would have to say, "I feel I know, that I see, but that I do not yet know, do not yet see, a manifest way to say." Just because you cannot prove something as true to another does not mean that you do not know that something is true. Some of our great scientific insights have been highly intuitive, questions being formed, experiments being formed initially by keen insight alone. Be peaceful, let them strengthen you, let the fire inside you burn steady, and then you may teach us all about the nature of God and religion; but this will take the cultivation of proper calm, humility and honesty about and with your self. Peace and Blessings, David
believe me... its not just that one comment that makes me think that way. thats my whole life when im with him? i explain. my dad is (i hate to say it) but he is the biggest hypocrite i know. he told me the skeleton key was real for one thing. then he tells me i cant watch or read harry potter because it is about witch craft. (bare with me) then he has the nerve to tell i cant listen to ozzy osbourne because he has a song about werewolves. but yet, his favorite movie in the entire world van helsing. then i say"dad, van helsing has werewolves all in the movie" and his excuse is that van helsing is fighting evil, not singing about it. and then i tell him that when it all gets down to it, that is what harry potter is doing too. but he cant think of anything to say to this. and did i mention that he watches every movie to ever come out on ppv the theater period, and loves them. he doesnt care if it has nudity, violence, language, blood, gore, whatever, as long as it is a good flick. and most of the time, i watch them with him. but then for some reason i cant listen to metallica because they sing a song called "entersandman" and its about death and death is not good. yeah, what i meant was not that i choose to turn away because of his comments, but because it is all about hypocrisy and turning it around the way you like it.:$
ask your president. when a boy hit me at school, and i hit him back, i got told that two wrongs dont make a right. but when two planes crash into a building and make the stock market crash, its alright to fight back. but if someone was to kill my mother and i killed him back. i would be wrong.
Your parents care and know that their hypocrisy will cause you to search for answers in the wider world. Part of driving the chicks from the nest. Anyway, look at the definition of hypocrisy: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not. Feign: to give a false appearance of Your Father is pretending to be what he is not to teach you about the world. You should have a sense of humor about it. Start being hypocritical to him to show him you are mature... One up your dad in the hypocrisy game...
Don't drag that moron into this. Why don't YOU ask him. He's done little but lie to us an vacation in Tx lately...
It seems that only the ones we actually listen to are liars. Bush, Robertson, Jim Baker, etc etc etc ad nauseum...
Sorry, but I think it's a load of hooey just like this other email I received. For one thing, I don't believe God causes trauma to happen. For another, God is hardly being kept out of anywhere. He is everywhere all the time. As for not teaching Christianity in public schools, that is reasonable. Otherwise we would have to devote equal time to other religions at which point there would be no time left for the three Rs etc. You can teach the basic principles of love and forgiveness and tolerance in school without calling it by a religious name. So I am just fine with Separation of church and state
Since God takes care of everyone and they believe in God, you have to look at their lies with a sense of humor. Seriously...
