Hi all.. I'm in the market to buy myself a new computer.... I'm looking to spend around £3500 to get a top-notch quality gaming system to attend to all my gaming needs... Now I'm currently looking at getting an Alienware, which look very VERY nice indeed, but I want to keep my options open and see what else is on the market. so.. simple question - can you recomend any companies that cater to gaming PCs that I could look at? Thank you.
Well yes, I've built my own computer before... spent £2000 on it at the time (around 3-4 years ago now) and that was fine - once I got it working... I had a lot of hassle with dodgy ram and other bits, plus had no support when things went wrong with it... This time I just wanted it to be nice and easy.... choose what I want on the site, pay the money, have it delivered - PLAY GAMES!!! (building my own is still an option, but i'd like to look at some alternatives)
Build your own. But if you're determined to buy a purpose-built machine, Alienware is the way to go. I have an Alienware laptop that's the proverbial hound's nuts. Or alternatively you could pay me to build one for you
Now you see, I have a laptop at the moment and it's given me nothing but HASSLE!!! Since I first got, it has single-handly planned to make me go insane... and so far it's not done such a bad job.. Now I realise that I could have just been very unlucky, but it has totally put me off the idea of ever owning a laptop again (well, a laptop for gaming, I'd happily get a small vanilla one for work)... but if you've had an alienware one, and it's been working OK... that might help me change my mind... one thing i did notice about alienware laptops a while ago (so I don't know if they still do it) is that you can upgrade the graphics card.. do you know if they still do that? Cos the one thing that's going to be out of date before the rest of the system is the graphics card (and seeing the laptop graphics cards are lagging behind the desktop ones as it is), it would be good to be able to keep that, at least, up to date. Any and all feedback is apprechated
Build your own , its not that hard really, just be careful EDIT: oh yea, i wouldnt spend that much money on a comp..i mean, in like 3-4 months it will all be outdated, just buy what you need, put the rest of the cash into the bank...then when you need to upgrade use that money..
not really, if you build your own. I built mine, about two years ago, and only recently is a stock HP on par with it. building your own custom hot rod of a computer, is definitly the way to go. really, the only thing that'll go out of date within a year or two, is your video card. Put, the most ram you possible can in it, and the most badass vid card you can find, along with a dual core 3Ghz+ processor, and you won't be out of date for years.
Thank you to everyone that has suggested that I build my own.. this is something that I'm thinking about - but I'm still looking for suggestions for companies that can do it for me.
when i "built" mine, i found the store with all the cheapest parts and went to get everything from them. After talking with them for a bit, i found out that theyd put it together for me at no extra cost, as well as give me a warantee. try checking out smaller stores, see what you can get from them
Aye... this seems to be the general idea.. but what you also need to remember is that they advertise their systems in games manuals, etc... so if you have a big enough advertising budget, you can sell yourself this image, even if it's not true. Mind you, I don't really have a problem with allienware, and as I said before, I'm very much looking forward to the idea of owning one, the only thing I'm worried about is that I'll be buying a brand name - what extra do I get for that, do you think? Better support I should hope..
keep in mind, alienware is the "eh...well, i guess if you don't build it, you could go alienware...." just sayin....same hardware, LOT cheaper.....all the support you need in these forums
EVIL!!!! No thank you, as I said before, I'm a gamer - I want a computer that actully HAS games available for it!! Big respect for macs and what they can do (good for design and music), but it's no good for what I need!
Compared to retail computers, it will probably last a few more months without being outdated. When building custom computers, each couple of months there is new hardware thus making your computer outdated.
