How much respect I have for each and everyone of you who has made the choice to go Vegeterian and/or Vegan. I am an Omni, but readhign this forum has taught me so much. Thanks guys!
Well it's nice to know that some omnis out there are conscious of it all. If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to post here and ask. You'll find that most of us animal-friendly people are human-friendly too. =) Are you considering anything as far as veg*nism goes? Balance & harmony to you, Hikky Z
Actually, yeah, I was considering cutting some of the meat out of my diet on a more regular basis... Trying to eat more salads, and more vegtables in other ways. I just spent six weeks in the DR, ate beef like twice, and other than that, ate a lot of chicken, rice, and beans. That didn't seem like a bad way to go...in fact, it was great. So I wouldn't mind incorporating more of that kind of stuff in my diet and getting rid of crap food...
Yeah, Dominican Republic. So what's the easitest meal to convert to veggie for a start? I was thinking Breakfast, since I'm normally to lazy to eat breakfast, just grab some fuit and call it good.
do you have a source for fake meat where you live? first, start omitting high food chain animals, pigs and cows. those are the most toxic to your health and to the environment... or just go cold turkey, its pretty easy and i think thats the way a lot of people on here went. i dont even know where to start as far as food goes, theres so many meals that dont include flesh, i couldnt list them all if i wanted. i bet if we all listed what we eat in a typical day in the forum we would all eat very different things, well maybe not so much the vegans but even there i still bet there is a world of differnce just set aside some time to shopping one day, maybe even at a natural/health/whole food store. ohh and try vanilla soymilk, your grocery store is guarenteed to have it and its soo godamn good. it is so easy to go vegan or veggie now a days with all the alternatives available, its unbelievable we continue to do the terrible stuff we do factory farming.
Fake meat stuff seems yucky...lol. Well, besides Tofu...that doesn't seem too bad, actually. But yeah, there is probably some good sources of fake meat in Portland. I live right close to a natural foods store...a few, actually. A small one, then a Natures (Wild Oats now - I always forget that!) and a New Seasons. Thanks for all the input!
Thanks Midget and the same utmost respect goes to you. You are the exact kind of person, I just want to give a big hug to and thank continuously for having such a clear, accepting, open mind And, if you're looking into cutting some meat out of your diet like you said...you stated you like tofu...there are SO many things you can do with tofu, but it's a bit difficult to learn how to cook. It is for me anyway. Otherwise if you like any sort of nuts, seeds, and beans those are also good sources of protein. Don't be afraid to try new things; trying new things can only do good for you If you still plan on eating other animal products, eggs are also a good source of protein [though I have to say, I personally always thought eggs tasted like ass.] But, if you like them and want to keep eggs in your diet, then that's a good route to go for protein too. I'm so redundant. Anyway, again, thanks, and good luck Feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions I'm not quite as intelligent as some of the folk on here, but I can do my best to offer suggestions if you ever need any
Human-friendly, hehe. Tell my boyfriend that, he seems to think I want to cook him for dinner. I really don't! But... I am a biter.......:&
Ha! I still call the WO on Broadway in Boulder Alfalfa's (as in the Leftover Salmon song I Wanna Work at Alfalfa's) But since that was the only one I went to, I call all the others Wild Oats. If I were to embark on the veggie path from scratch today, here's what I would do: reproportion the meal: center around grains and veggies. meat can simply be crowded off that way. I'd NOT get the 50 pound bag of white rice, but brown instead. I was so busy focusing on no critter I forgot whole food (not reistered trademark: there was only one tiny WH to be when I went veg) Whole grains really do taste better are heavier and actually have the nutrients. When I use ww spaghetti, I can cook half as much! I'd get friendly with cookbooks/ recipie sites for ideas and techniques. I alway reccomend locating a copy of Tassajara Cookbook as the simplest method book. I'd find other veggies, face to face if at all possible. I was alone unless I went to the Krsna temple 2x a year. Online is an OK substitute. I'd read some basic nutrition info. (OK, so I was 12, almost 13. I didn't know people wrote books about nutrition. I saw my first one at 15..and it was wrong..Diet for a Small Planet, since revised and corrected and a good book itself.) I don't know if I would go gradual. I think I would, in that same position of living with family that would also be in the transition. But today,if single or living with a veggie, I'd finish the meaty groceries, having a huge party if need be, and start anew. I'd probably fast, too...but not sure.
