Ok, all of you who know me also know that I hold no supernatural beliefs, however that doesn't mean that some of my ideas aren't...um...strange... but I accept and acknowledge this. Bullshit goes both ways and we sometimes bullshit ourselves more than we do anyone else...and that's life. Live it. Here's the deal: I've never had any sort of "hero" in life. Sure I've had my fair share of those I admire and look up to, but "hero"? no. However, in the past few years, the early philosophies of Timothy Leary handed down from the wise sages of ancient philosophy such as Socrates, have changed my life. Mind-blowing changes... I believe that Timothy Leary was the greatest philosopher of the 20th century and was the Galileo of his time, if not even the Socrates. I can't stop listening to Leary. I can't stop reading Leary. I can't stop THINKING about Timothy Leary. I almost feel, don't laugh, that I am on his "astral plane". I feel as if I need to continue and expand Leary's early philosophy--that I am to become the "Timothy Leary" of the 21st century or rather, become what he was to the 20th century. Ok, now you can laugh...but shit, it's fun. And...this is "true confessions", right? Yes, I am a crazy motherfucker like all of you...now here's the proof you've ALL BEEN LOOKING FOR!
yeh but you will never be him. the greatest people are those who are so unique in themselves. none of them tried to imitate anyone and that was part of what was so special about them. like, for me, devinci is the ultimate. now i want to be the devinci of our century. but at the same time i dont want to do any of hte stuff that he did. try to be someone of timothy learys caliber but you got to find it in yourself, not through the things leary did. you gotta see what made him different and find that in yourself. theres your motivation speech, now go!
No, no, no...Not to be misunderstood. I don't want to BE Tim Leary, I want to push for the philosophy we both share through the 21st century. To keep it going...to encourage it. And really...who is "unique unto themselves"? Everyone is influenced. Nothing is "original". But, to share and push the greatest philosophy, I feel honored to be in the camp of the greatest minds from Socrates forward. I only hope that my contribution will be a fraction of what they achieved.
Sounds like an interesting trip you're on. I dig Tim Leary's writings, but I got more into his former partner now called ram dass... I think Tim Leary's philosophy didn't get much acceptance and application overall, because of the controversial nature of psychedelic drugs. So it would be difficult to overcome that prejudice that has set into the mainstream about such experiences and praises of the substances. I think what would be cool would be a hollywood movie about Tim Leary, and make it all trippy, like that olver stone movie the doors.
Ram Dass..., how ironic! I have a documentary coming from Netflix this week on Dr. Alpert. Yes, I agree. We need a real movie on Leary, Alpert and Kesey.
z if tim leary hadnt died what would he have done? he would have pushed his philosophy and encouraged it. but to make an impression you have to have your own ideas, not be a 'neoleary'. but following on directly all you are doing is becoming 'leary if he hadnt died' but second grade (because your not him)
Man, just chill. Leary's ideas are what I am all about. The same philosophy handed down through the sands of time. There was Socrates, there was Galileo, etc...there was Leary... Now, it's the 21st Century and there needs to be those people in the forefront pushing this philosophy. I am already nationwide with my articles I write. There's no reigns holding me or YOU or anyone back. I admire Leary and I want to be to this century something of what he was to the 20th, I am not trying to BECOME him-reincarnate, or anything. His philosophy was not original, it was just defined HIS way. I'll define the age old philosophy MY way.
mann its all misunderstanding. i think its great what you want to do but the title of this thread is 'timothy leary - second coming' which applies that you wish to in a sense revive leary through yourself by continuing his work. and yeh it is teh definition im talking about being original, but by the way you made it out in the first post it seemed that you were obsessed with leary's way and wanted to continue that.
all I have to say is... do it. yah just dont become him but live on the ledgend, be your own interpratation (SPELLED WRONG EHH). I'd like to see another timothy leary dearie.. but just make sure its not a phase first.
I just started reading a book by Robert Anton Wilson, somebody who knew Leary personaly. wilson talks a bit about Learys life and it does parralell a lot of other inavators through history. Socrates for one.
ehh i used to be on a similar trip, almost sexually possessed by those ideas and other psychadelic writings and subjects. their good ideas and its good your interested in them, but life goes much deeper than ANY philosophers words. life is the same for us all, for tim leary and for you and for me. we all have a tim leary or some kind of spirit within ourselves and your just beginning to touch on it, thats all. its your spirit and your heart that his writings trigger inside of you, and it has nothing to do with the man timothy leary. his works came from inspiration from life and something higher than ourself, something that happens to evvverybody, whether we recognize it or not. not just his writings can trigger that place inside yourself. its life is what it comes down to. tim talks truth of life, a gift we all potentially have.. truth of life comes in many more forms than timothy leary, and many more forms than drugs too. try to watch whats inside of you and get in tune with it, its everywhere. hope that made some sense...
Thanks for offering your experience, stranger. I do believe that we have to progress in a different way, indeed. With me, I use Leary as a "guide", so to speak. The philosophy is as old as life, but we just need to update it to the current events. I want to make as much difference as possible and I believe Leary's influence in all areas of my life can help me do such.
Iisnt Tim Leary the guy who rote the song "I'm an asshole" and has a bunch of comedy tapes out? I didnt know he was into philosophy
Hi Libertine, I was woundering if I could get a link from you to some great Leary writtings, or some of your own would be spectacular. I read you're first post on this page and I'd think you're totally on the right track, you could be like the grandchild of Leary for the 21st Cen. I'm sure Leary wasn't the only one with the ideas he had, he simply had the strength of will to devote his life to being the voice of those thoughts, where many others hid in the shadows. Study how to have the right voice, and then have the voice brother, be the ruller of your own fear, and die from devotion. LSD
www.leary.ru/english www.deoxy.org are a few Leary sites...I enjoy. my site is simple: www.myspace.com/libertineguru
That movie that Oliver Stone made is a piece of shit. I love nothing more than The Doors, but that movie was the biggest insult to Jim Morrison to date. It made Morrison out to be an arrogant asshole. Morrison should be remembered as a poet. Some parts of the movie are ok, like the concert scenes. As a whole that movie blew chunks. I found my copy of the tape the other day and snapped it in half. Sorry about this rant, but I can't stand that movie.
