Matt, did what I speak of refering to my brother make any sense? It was 20 years ago and we haven't really talked about it in probably 10 years. "hey bro, remember when you were locked up for six months with that mental issue, what was that all about" is not a typical conversation we have around the house.

PS - No offense to anyone, I wasn't trying to be insensitive regarding my quote

yes there are ways to treat it with meds but not cure it

i used to be on Ziprasidone to treat it but it caused dizzyness and insomnia and i had to stop taking it...
i cant find any good meds so i just accept it...it is mild anyway so i just go with it
i might not be my self without it ...but im scared to think what might happen whn i get older

i actually do check things over and over, like whether i turned off the stove and curling iron. also, when i check things, they have to be in increments of 10, so i have to check the knob on the stove 10 times. i'm not as bad as i used to be though...

    (i can't believe i just admitted that...)

I was diagnosed with depression. But I got over it, without any drugs, I wouldn't take those bloody things.

i took antidepressants for a while, but i never noticed that they made me feel any better, and the side effects sucked. they made me sleep all the time, which i was already doing, because i was depressed.

    i don't take them anymore.

almost every single one of my friends takes meds for depression...i think the docs are not doing good tests before giving out the meds...or more and more people are getting depression

i think the doctors think of antidepressants as sort of a cure all band aid.

they may relieve the symptoms, but not the problems. some people have chemical imbalances, i guess, but i think a lot of people have situational problems that aren't going to be helped by meds.

I smoked too much marijuana a couple of months ago which brought on panic attacks, general anxiety disorder and agrophobia. It sucked for a while, but my medications have really helped. Im on Aropax (or Paxil as I belive it is called in the States) although, I do sleep all the time, as someone else mentioned, all my other side effects seem to have cleared up and in another 3 months, I should be able to start cutting down on my medication (which atm is 20mg a day).
Its been a long, tough road, but I am on my way to recovery and I'm just thankfull the marijuana didn't do as much damage to me as it could have done.

that's a trip! Me and a friend started getting panic attacks after taking birth control. IT was bad for a while, and I stopped smoking marijuana, but I smoked again yesterday, and I've been smoking today, and it seems that the mary jane is helping my panic symptoms. By the way, what exactly is agoraphobia? Peace

    Hey Willy, excellent thread!

Yeah, I'm schizophrenic. Full blown. I left home at 17 and went travelling and working around Europe, which was excellent fun though not what's expected of a promising young individual in today's society. I was diagnosed at the age of 20 when I came back home from a job in France in some distress. I've been locked up for it about four times because I didn't want to take meds and kept coming off them. The last couple of times I didn't think there was anything wrong with me but once you get into the trap it's kinda tough to get out.

I'm a believer in "That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and am glad to have been through it, though not to have been locked up for it as I know (though my psychiatrists clearly didn't) that I was never a danger to myself and certainly not to anyone else.

Isaac Newton was schizophrenic and well into the black arts as they are called in the history books (probably any spiritual belief that wasn't Christianity). Are you? I am. I totally believe in magic and have studied physics and know enough physicists to know there is space in science for "magic" to work. Having experienced magic I think I'd be mad not to be 'delusional'. As they say in the matrix - reality is electrical signals interpreted by the brain. You have to understand that psychiatrists really don't have a clue how the brain works and their ideas of it, in my opinion, are somewhat akin to the idea of the universe before Galileo came around. They are fumbling in the dark. The brain, whilst being electrical and chemical as well obviously works on a quantum level, and we are only beginning to understand quantum physics.

There was a very interesting article in NewScientist the other day about the possible cause of schizophrenia. Not an unbalance of Serotonin and Dopamine as is currently believed (never been proved, just accepted), but an excess of the naturally occuring hallucinogen responsible for creating dreams. To me this totally rings true as it is very much like being in a dream state when I am in that kind of state. Can I add you to my buddy list? PM me if you want.
