Do you collect lots of stuff that your family and/or friends say you should throw out? Do you collect more stuff then you have room for? Do you collect things just cuz you might need them "someday"
haha, someone else is watchign oprah, I think yeah, I do collect stuff, I'm bad at cleaning. I have a huge pile of dishes I need to do today. I have a pile of clothes at the foot of my bed. I'm a pack rat, I still have things unpacked from when I moved in july
My grandpa was a 'pack-rat'. I think its kind of cool, if you can keep it neat. He had so much stuff you could find almost anything youd ever need in his basement/garage. I once caught part of a similar episode of Oprah in which she had 'horders' on the show, people that have incredibly messy, often dirty, houses. They just dont clean one day, and it just keeps building up till until they cant do anything about it, so their houses becomes a giant dump.
You're right, I started this thread cuz of todays Oprah show. I used to collect tons & tons of books & magazines....stored them on shelves, in boxes, on tables, under the bed, in an old beat-up dresser....ANYWHERE Good cure for pack rats....travel on greyhound bus cross country a couple times a year!
I bet there's a pack rat out there who has a bunch of rat pack memorabilia... that's just so damn literal.
NO, no, NO! I HATE having too much shit around... I get rid of lots of stuff all the time.. I hate what's pointless..
My grandfather is the ultimate pack rat. At one time it was only the large barn in back of the house. Now it's all spilling out into the yard. Including about five cars that haven't run in probably ten or fifteen years with "antiques" stuffed in them. He started out as collecting antiques. Yeah, it's all still antiques. Unfortunately, they aren't much good anymore, since most of it has been out in the rain for five or more years. My dad built them a garage for their car...now it's filled with junk. The entire upstairs of their house is filled with junk. I had to mow the lawn at their house today and had to maneuver around old plows, old tractors, cars, chairs, old toys...It's crazy. If I didn't know them, I'd think that they are completely off their rocker...
dan and i were flipping through the channels today and stopped at opera... there was this hysterical woman on there crying because she hoards so much STUFF that she doesnt even wanna get outta bed. her and her husband have talked about divorce because of it, and one time her husband gave away some of her stuff without her permission and she started hitting him. you should have seen her house... a total MESS... ive never seen anything like it. (edit- i take that back, there was an old woman who used to live near me whose house was just as bad... and she had a million cats and her house always smelled like piss) i dont know how people can allow things to get like that... now, to answer the question... im some where in between... there are defiantly some things that i SHOULD throw away but you know, emotional significance or they COULD come in handy sometime..... but im not really bad and i do keep things neat. this apartment is small though so its hard to find space for things sometimes....
my mom is a hoarder. Its not bad now since im living here again and threw a whole bunch of shit away. but when i move out, watch, itll be a junkyard again
I might save somethings but I am far from being a pack rat. My parents are really bad pack rats and it use dto drive me nuts living there because of it. That is the reason why I am not a pack rat................ ~namaste~
