I'm about to take clones of my clones...and hopefully get back to the strength of the mother plant. Can I take clones from anywhere on the existing clone plant? These last clones aren't that big...3' tall, yes...but not very thick stems or wide leaves. So I'm wondering if I can take the clones from the top branches on the ends. (Obviously this would negate the bud production on the donor plant, but that's not a problem here) And also, If the trichromes on the lower buds (bottom half of plant) are already turning 50-75% dark BUT the trichromes on the top buds are still mostly white....what's the prognosis? TKS
You can harvest buds at different times, taking them as they ripen. Imo, poor donor plants produce poor clones. Because clones are still part of the donor plant. They're not offspring like from seeds. And when cloning it's a lot easier to make them cummier than to make them better. That is, taking clones off a healthy donor and raising them under adverse conditions and ending up with crappy plants is easy, taking clones off a weak donor and producing a healthier clone is more difficult.
Okay, but I thought the "genetics" were consistent...and it was a case of "environment" that made the poor clones. I was hoping to snip the tops and top branch ends...plant them without so much crowding...and hope that the temps and CO2 fall back into line. Well Ranger...I guess it won't matter...as I've got to try to keep the strain around, or lose the whole thing anyway and start with other seeds. To give you an idea of how rare this Northern Light seed was; of the 20 that were planted THIS one outgrew it's siblings by a factor of 10! Thanks for the bud harvest answer. I've found that the buds on the lower part of the plants are maturing faster...(farther from the light??)...and the ones on top keep producing quite a bit of new, white pistils. TKS
