My husband (American) and I (Canadian) have put a lot of thought into the matter. Right now, we are in Ohio. At the end of September, we are moving to Saskatchewan. There were several factors ranging from International Land Ownership laws to breast cancer to air quality. So in just over 2 months, we are moving to Canada. Matthew is keeping his US citizenship... and will become a Landed Immigrant. This way, our kids will have dual citizenship.
i personaly donrt beleive in citizenship, borders..us & them..why are you supposedly so different cause you were born just across the border? i am an earthling.. i was born on turtle island (north american continent) i will defend the earth, however i refuse to defend any "country" or "government" who claims rulership over me based on where i happened to be born. SOARINGEAGLE: i couldnt have said it better. damn near almost shed a tear. thanks, bud. apollo
Yup, get rid of citizenship, and move to Fiji. Namaste Francine PS I'm going to do this as soon as it becomes finiacilly possible anyway...
Yes, and I will. Great White North here I come. Reasons? Same as everyone else really. The government does not serve the interests of the majority. Not that corporations aren't enormously powerful in Canada of course, but at least there is some hope left to moderate their influence up there.
Well, I'm from the UK so I wouldn't leave the US. But then I'd never go to live in the US anyway. I have left the UK and through choice live in another European country. I wouldn't have chosen to live anywhere else I don't think. But definitely wouldn't have chosen America.
I have to choose between German and U.S. citizenship before I'm 21 or 22. I like living here, and I'd have to stay in Germany for a year in order to get German citizenship so...... there's more things you can do in the U.S, as long as you're not stupid. When I'm older, yes, I'd like to move away. But not right now or anytime soon.
I've certainly considered Canada. My sister has talked about Portugal, but I don't think she's 100% serious. We're both in the peace movement here, and I know I'd really like to be among the people who make a difference. My partner intends to stick it out, so I'll probably die an American.
yes I would because I would like to see what other countries are like. You know their diffrences, culture of life and ect.
I say stay and fight. If everyone takes off then they win. A lot of people fled Quebec in the 70s and it RADICALLY changed the politics there - allowed them to put in anti-English legislation etc. A lot of people fled Canada in the 90s - which pulled Canada hard to the left. Don't leave and give Bush more of a majority.
I would love to move away from the US because I just feel the need to travel and explore new places and beings. But I wouldnt so much call it a want to denounce my citizenship.....granted the US has not always made the best decisions but its still part of my heritage to an extent, a part of who I am and what has made me the way that I am....you know what I mean? ~peace n love
exactly what i think. i don't think that i would be able to live with myself if i just gave up and retired to some where that i could releax. the US is a world superpower and you can't turn your back on that and leave for all of the people who will agree with what ever the gov't wants to do. i for one intend to stay and fight.
nope. never. I've been to over 42 countries. I've lived in one for 3years(hong kong)..i've had extended stays in Australia(3 months) and new zealand(6 months so far..3 more to go) and i would not move out of the US for any reason other than marriage. Canada is probably the only other country i'd give serious thought to, honestly. That is not to say that every other country sucks or anything...i like Oz and NZ a lot and i could very easily live in either place, but i enjoy back home and i miss it terribly. I've never felt sad about going home.
I want to work overseas, possibly for the US government, so I would have no problem leaving. I've always planned on raising my future children in Spain, so that's where I'd most like to go.
