of course lately gas has been a huge concern for many. They talk about lowering gas prices and such, but I was wondering if that would at all affect drilling in alaska..

if the prices did lower, what would be the enviromnetal consequences?

If they lowered back to like 1.80 a gallon for the cheap stuff, I think it would make the case for drilling in Alaska less tight, but aside from that, I really don't think there'd be a difference, people still drive as much as before, just hurting their budget more.

Can't be real, the national average is around $2.55 a gallon, and in Florida this week the average was $2.53 a gallon, either the sign was wrong or they were doing a special sale.

i'm in the florida panhandle, not south florida; there's a big difference in gas prices between the two, i think.

Im in upstate N.Y. and gas is like $ 2.30 a gallon but I buy mine at the Indian Reservation and its 30 cents cheaper a gallon, as far as drilling in Alaksa, remember Bush is still in office and he could give two shits about the wildlife

I don't think the prices of petrol and diesel should lower... if anything, this should be a warning sign that we have completely fucked over the world's resources and we are on our way out. Maybe it's for the best.

How can you complain at those kind of prices, in the UK its almost £1 a litre or $1.90. To put it another way $8.64 a gallon. Though cars tend to do around 50 miles a gallon here which I suppose improves things a bit.

The bottom line is that we are not going to see lower gas prices until we change our behavior. In other words stop buying gas. Even if we did so for just a week we would see prices go down real quick. They say that prices are going to go up again next week which means here in NY we might be looking at $3.00 or more per gallon for gas!! The oil companies are not going to stop until we cry uncle.

modern countries run on oil. To stop using oil for a week would esentially mean shutting down America for a week...it cant happen.

    It does, brother!
Tony, the UK, and most of Europe, also invests in good mass transit. I remember the trains as the ONLY way to go while I lived in West Sussex.
In the US, for years, oil was domestic and the refineries were usually close. That cuts transportation costs considerably.
Tony, do you know how much of your cost is in taxes? In Colorado it is about 44 cents a gallon (11 cents per liter?).

A good us gas price site is www.aaa.com/fuelgauge

I agree with the above comment that we should just stop buying gas. Of course, it would be impossible to coordinate something like that, and most people would just not care (like they do about everything), but man, if we COULD do that, it would be brilliant!
