Hi Gang, As many of you have read in previous other posts, my first cloning produced many clones...just NOT in the "vigorous, pound-producing format" of their mama. So... On my NEXT attempt to clone the clones, is there a size limit, or area, or ?? (on the donor plant) that I should pay attention to? These F1 clones are growing well...just with very light (thin) branches and small buds. I'm hoping to take fewer new clones and provide more light, etc. Also, by reducing the temps with direct vent hoods I'm hoping to keep more CO2 in the room. Mother had constant 1500ppm or better...and now, with summer heat, etc., the system barely climbs above 1000ppm before cycling the exhaust/inlets. Anyway...while I ramble...is there a better way to take the next clones? TKS
once I grew a motherplant and stripped it of every clone and put them in a baggie with water in the fridge. it will preserve them for 6 months so you always have a supply of clones if you need them.but they die if frozen so be careful.
Oh I won't be that clever. I just need a heads-up on what I should be looking for with the second set of clones. The F! clones are growing well...but rather skinny and putting on small buds. I just want to figure out how to re-clone the plant and get back to the vigorous mother plant's traits. For now, the only thing in the refridgerator are the seeds and "harvest", but it's good to know I can stuff a few babies in there too. TKS
There is one other possibility that the problem may be something other than poor cloning technique's. There are a few strains (I've been told, never come across them personally) that just don't clone well. Also, is it possible you took a lot more care with the donor plant than with an overcrowded roomfull of clones? Do you have the clones under HPS at the rate of 50 watts per sq/ft?
Ranger... Northern Lights is supposed to be a good, clone-able strain so I presume that's not it. The real problem...(which I'm posting new questions to under different "heat" topic)...is that the summer has raised the ambient temps and the rooms are getting too hot too quickly and engaging the exhaust fans. This vents my CO2 big-time and hasn't allowed the rooms to maintain 1500ppm at all. I just installed two A/C Hydrofarm Daystar hoods...with great ventilation...and the damn room is still heating up with the two 1000hps ballasts. Whereas during the first grow 1500ppm+ was easily maintained, the lights were almost on top of it most of the time, and the thing grew like a monster. Really bumming me out. Lots of $$ went into this setup....and so far I can't get the temp under control. I'm posting a question for one of the audience who left me a note awhile back that there's a small air-conditioner out there that might work. Live and learn. TKS
Update & question: The last clones that are still in the veg-side room are still fairly 'small-limbed and thin leafed'. When I attempt to take clones from these plants will the rule of thumb about taking the clones from the bottom of the plant still apply...or can I take them from anywhere...(including the top)...if I'm NOT concerned about messing up the existing cloned plant? This time...not so many clones, less heat, and more constant CO2...so hopefully they'll get back to "mama's" vigor. Also, anyone care to comment on 'clones of clones'? Is this like a xerox machine...where the copies of the copies get lighter? (As in weaker or less desirable) Thanks all...
