My 12 week old son had a doctor's appointment yesterday, and they weighed him and guess how big he was - 17 lbs, 7 oz.!!!!!!! I knew he was huge, but i couldn't believe he was THAT huge! does anyone know if there are special rules for big babies with car seats. I know they are supposed to be rear-facing for a year, but I don't think they make rear-facing car seats for such big babies - (i just got a new car seat, it says they can only be rear-facing until 30 lbs!). Also, the reason I was at the doctor was because he hadn't pooped in 8 days (he's totally breastfed), but then he pooped while I was there, in the waiting room! The doctor said not to worry, he obviously is getting enough to eat and he might not have much waste products, but does anyone have any suggestions for relieving gas and fussiness, because he was pretty uncomfortable by the last 3 days. Thanks
I got one of those car seats that goes forwards and rear-facing. I imagine once he starts crawling, his weight-gain will slow down. My daughter has weighed 23 pounds since she was 10 months old...she's 18 months now. Once she started walking and being more active, her weight gain slowed dramatically. I wouldn't worry too much. I doubt he'll be over 30 lbs before he turns one.
Gripe water works really well for gas and fussiness for the wee ones.Theres no alchohol in it and i think the ingredients are just fennel oil and baking soda, most pharmacies carry it. worked great for my kids.good luck
Gripe water is awesome! they have an alcohol free one. My daughter is bf as well and gets like that. totally normal! Just as long as the poop is runny/gritty. if its harder than normal he is constipated and that is a little problem! I know what you mean about big babies..both of mine were/are huge! My daughter at 9 weeks is 14 1/2 lbs Her brother was 25lbs at 3 months. Just use the car seat you have and then upgrade as you see fit. They always make them so that they can be rear facing.... Mind you When alex was 3 months he wasnt rear facing after that (Opsy) Mind you he was big enough around his neck so that it didnt move lol
im all about nursing too. . . . so i know all about the chunky monkies!!!! oh I LOVE IT u know whatever you eat baby eats too. ive noticed if i eat to much nuts or something with alot of protin and things that make u stop pooping, same will happen to baby. u try drinking some grape juice or munchin on some dehidrated prunes or something (there good) and ull notice u and baby will stay regular!!
Keep on breastfeeding Mama! Good job. About the pooping, I also experience times when Gaea would not poop before she started solids. As long as your Son does not have constipation, and his stools are wet dont stress. Alot of times your breast milk is so healthy that there is no waste. You baby absorbs almost all of it. It takes a couple to several days for enough stuff to accumulate for the baby to actually have a bowel movement.
Putting a 10 month old in a front facing car seat isn't the end of the world...if it comes to that....the 12 month thiing is really an estimate anyway...after all, all babies are unique! When my lil one was constipated all the old mamas around here told me to put a lil bit (no more than a teaspoon) of clear caro/corn syrup in a bottle (with milk or h2o or something)....i thought they were all nuts, but finally broke down and tried it and it worked wonders. I always did feel guilty for giving the baby something so sugary.
Another thing that helps with consipation is (brace yoruself) Taking A Qtip and putting ALOT of petrollium Gelly on it and slowly and gentl putting it up(just until the cotoon disapears) the recktum and wiggle it around SLOWLY and carefully! And then jump back when you see the butt pucker up! lol I have had to do this to Jillian SEVERAL times since nothing seemed tomake her poop. It was aweful she was in SO much pain and I was at my wits end since if she wasnt sleeping I wasnt. and she wouldnt nurse either. So If you must try this it helps ALOT plus you get alot of bang for your buck! Make sure that there is something around the butt to catch the flying poop Cuz hunny it FLYS! lol
A baby who is breastfed only and hasn't started solids doesn't poop every day. It's completely normal. The breastmilk is so well absorbed by the baby that there isn't alot of waste left over. When Xander was little-bitty he would usually poop once a week. If the baby shows signs of discomfort or pain then he may be constipated but just not pooping is actually normal at that age. (PS my Xander is 17 months and is 36 inches tall,so I know about huge baby. He's a moose)
Thanks for all of the suggestions! Danny (my little guy) has been consistantly pooping every 7 or 8 days, I guess it was just a shock after having him poop 10+ times a day when he was a newborn Also, a lot of people I know kept saying that its bad, but come to find out, they all bottle fed their babies, so their advice is meaningless to my little breastfed man, I am trying to attach a picture, but I guess all of mine are too big - does anyone know how to make them smaller?!
if you have a program on ypour computer that will make a picture smaller like adobe image ready or photoshop or something you can make them smaller. If you have trouble you can send me a few pics and I will send them back to you smaller.
