This is a sister Thread of (Actually starting construction on Desert Homestead) This Thread will detail my journey through the creation of a desert Homestead from the ground up. I will be happie to e- mail pictures and diagrams that I have availible to anyone interested in this project. The fist order of business: obtaining the land. 1.find a location that speaks to you as an individual. For me thats the desert. 2. Finding a lot for sale: There are a number of ways to find a suitable lot for sell. A. You may try new papers in the area you are intrested in or your local paper may have out of area parcels for sell as well. B. You can try the internet or even e-Bay, yes you can buy land over the enternet securely. C. Or you Can buy from property tax auctions at the county clerks offices or state capital, this is by far the least expensive way to aquired land. D. Look for land through a realtor. I chose Options B & C as I found the best deals through those opsions. Once you've found the type of land you want buy-it and fast. Land is a finite comoditity and they're not maken any more of it. I started out by purchasing 40 acre lot I did not want and later sold it at a small profit , with which I bought a 10 acre lot close to indeo, which I in turned sold to a developer for 35k. I waited I couple of years and bought a residential lot 1/4 acre 6k and bought 20 acre lot for 10k. The rest of the money went to pay down my consumer dedt. Three years later I had some doubts about developing my 20 acre lot. And decided to buys a 6 acre lot for 8k in CO., Which I later sold in just 2 month for 16k further paying down my consumer dedt which is now gone. All thats left is truck payments and a land loan. which will take me 3.5 years to pay off. A which time I will have nothing holding me back to move out to the 20 acre lot. Plus i'm saving money in the mean time for the move out. For now I only do work on the land that requires little or no money to do, and requires me to leave nothing behind that could be taken as I have had one bad experience with thieves out there so far. What projects am I working on now? Well at the moment i'm digging out the wash to build a huge rain catchment area. this will be explained in more detail on my next post. Peace be with you all.
