Strange forum. Interesting what Google can find !

Please tell me if I am a criminal or I have a point here.

I decide turn up at my uni aerobics class with bare feet and half way through the instructor stops the class to throw me out. Apparently I am "spreading verrucas" and I have to walk out in front of everyone with the music turned off and everyone looking at me.

On the way out I am told off in reception, by some old bitch (and in front of other people) about hygiene and told that i can't use their changing rooms today.

Basically, public humiliation. I'm getting a letter of complaint off today. Do think i can sue them ?

    I say fuck 'em.
They're assholes and you don't need to waste your time on sueing (if you even could get it done).

that's odd. I've never heard hygenity as a reason for shoes in a gym or aerobics centre, moreso for your own protection (near weights and machinery and all).

I'd talk to the manager and demand your money back (if you spent any) and tell all your friends about how shitty they are there, maybe write a letter to your paper (omitting the business' name or location) showing your viewpoint on why not wearing shoes while working out should be fine.

Yeah. Don't provide employment for lawyers. But you can hit them in other ways. Definitely get that letter off to them. There is NO excuse EVER for public humiliation. That's one of the lowest blows the control freaks of this world love to use. Letter hand delivered (bare foot, of course) Letter to the corporate office, if in a different location.

Use the internet to publicly humiliate them. I remember when we used to be able to tell only a dozen or so people about a business that pissed us off. NOW we can tell thousands! And you've already started! (Well, you ought to begin to reveal who these wazoos are, let their humiliation begin right here---)

Hearing your story irritates me as much as the local quick stop gas chain here in eastern Maine (RH Foster) and one of their Ellsworth store managers treatments of me. I won't sue, cuz I'm not in it for the $. But I'm going to make them uncomfortable.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. You'll find lots of helpful folk here, and good moral support on stuff like this. Let us know how your own case goes.

I think everyone else kind of covered everything I'd suggest, but here's another welcome! I'm pretty new too....like two weeks I think.
Anyway, just remember: no one can force you to wear socks.

You can't spread veruccas unless you've got them. If there're verucca germs (or whatever) on the floor, they'll get around on shoes just as well as on feet.

instead you could either place an add with the details of the events in a local sales publication that are given out at conveinence stores and such, and DO INCLUDE THE BUSINESS NAME! or you can get a few more like us to picket the business and be sure to invite the media.

I would get a letter from a doctor that said you don't have veruccas. then return to the aerobics place and interupt the class and very loudly and very publicly scorn the instructor by saying that someone else has it and she is a dumbass because she didn't research it further. then leave.

That is terrible...even if you were doing something against their "rules",why make such a scene. If I had been a member there and witnessed that,I would have been completely put off by it. You just don't treat people like that..it's rude and senseless.

Yes it might be rude and senseless but then again what the instructor did to that women in the first place was rude and senseless so I think if that person came back and made a scene like that then the instructor would simply get whats coming to her. If she doesnt like that then maybe she shouldnt have made such a big fuss to one of her customers in the first place.

Are you talking to me? I wasn't talking about the original poster making a scene,I was talking about the instructor's scene. The instructor had no reason to make a scene and I would have been put off by the instructor's scene. Sorry,if I didn't word it right.

Not true. This is off topic, but public shame is far better than prison or community service. Some judge in texas uses it for drunk drivers, make them clean up a road or just stand on an intersection holding a sign saying what they did. Recidivism is way lower with this technique.

However, in situations like this, it's wrong. There was no reason for it. You didn't break any law, and were just minding your own business. Something needs to be done. Shit, you shouldn't have even left, I would have refused to be kicked out, at least I'd have tried it. You paid your money (presumably) just like everyone else, and I doubt your feet are diseased.

Verruca - British term for plantar wart

Gyms totally suck. You try OLing or PLing in any gym, and you'll find Barbie running at you so goddamn fast it'll make your head spin "no chalk! no heavy weight! Lift slowly!"

I stand corrected. Those actual crimes are indeed reasons for uses of public humiliation. Somehow I didn't think of that in my post.

Public humiliations over things like the original poster described, however, or on any of us for the "infractions" of being merely barefoot or otherwise partly exposed are what I was on-about. And I'm afraid I"ve got a thing about control freaks who go to this means. It's like we're adults here, or nearly so, and being treated like 2nd graders with disciplinary action in front of our fellows. That's what I meant has no excuse ever.

I was just responding to your post on here. I mightve confused what you said in that other post and im sorry if I did. I just think that if you go anyplace barefoot and people give ya flack for it then you should be able to stand up and make a scene about it and let people know it bothers you and that you wont tolerate it because you really should be able to freely go barefoot where you wish and not get flack from some bozo for it. People should really be more respectful of those who go barefoot.

It's just that nasty spoiled chick in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' :p

Am I crazy, or aren't gymnastics and things of that nature supposed to be done barefoot? They are in the olympics. Bah...

It's really interesting how others reacted in this situation, how can verucca be picked up when the rest of the class are in sneakers?? Yoga and pilates are normally done in barefeet and yet no one seems to raise an eyebrow.

It's funny that you don't see people getting out of the swimming pool with shoes and socks on. Other than those dreaded aqua shoes, which I personally would'nt be caught dead in, just about everyone goes swimming barefooted.

Has anyone heard of telling someone to leave the swimming pool area because they are walking around in barefeet?
