I've been using brainwave entrainment CDs for a few months now. They put me in a deep meditative state faster and more easily than I could ever accomplish through breathing exercises. My question is this: Is there anything wrong with this? I have heard others say that It hurts your practice to rely on these, but I don't see th difference between this and relying on a new breathing technique. Technique is technology too. What's the difference if it is high or low tech? Steve www.TheMeditationSite.com
i'm not sure but one way of looking at it would be, that u wont always have the cd's with you all the time but you would have your breathing techiques where ever you go for the rest of ur life. just something to thin about
Possibly because you aren't learning for yourself. Like, you use a calculator to do your division rather than know how to do the math... and maybe it will be important for you to someday know that; maybe the calculator (cds) wont be around. I suggest using both, so you can use the technology to your advantage. I have no experience or even much knowledge about these CDs, but I'm sure you can figure out a way to use the CDs as a tool in your learning, rather than as a shortcut (because as we all know, shortcuts are never short....).
yeah man its definitely not bad for you. once your there, it doesn't matter how you got there because the goal is to be here and now, no concern with what happened or what might happen. but, if your looking for a way to cultivate this awareness in daily life, a routine can be helpful. this is only saying that practicing yoga is beneficial for that reason, among many others. but it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with finding other methods. shit, its like a drug without the physical or psychological risks, or the legal/society factor (probly not as fun tho!
... sorry, from the last post.... but yeah, i would only say to discontinue if you get serious about your practice and you find this, like drugs, to be a shortcut thats so preferable, you don't bother with meditaion or postures. because once your comfortable with the meditative state, you see how it applies to all of life and how physcial discipline can be beneficial to maintaining that awareness. also, meditation takes much longer than these other methods, but after continued practice, one develops a sort of meditative lifestyle in which daily activities are carried out in a meditative manner. one will then realize that it is unnecessary to get there so quickly because part of the lesson is that the journey is just as important as the goal, and that time is really meaningless. i think that this method might be good for you for sparking your interest in deeper, inner consciousness. but if you begin continuous practice, you'll eventually find it unnecessary and see your waking consciousness as just as valuable
I use BWE CDs that I make myself, and I can tell you that through experimentation, I've had some great experiences with them. I used them in conjunction with some subliminal messaging, and that's how I quit smoking.
