I've noticed that most of the designer clothing made for the ladies is ...well... crap. My assumption is that the market is geared toward this season - whatever is in style will go out of style before it has a chance to be worn out.

I'd love to hear from the ladies who wear business attire on a daily basis and buy clothing in a fashion similar to the way men do - with the assumption that a suit should last a long time. A dress shirt should wear and fit well. What do you need and want? Who makes real QUALITY? What defines quality in a skirt? How the hell do you wear those 4" heels without dying?

From a professional curiosity, I'd love to hear more about what women who don't run around in size 2 Cavalli need and want, whose styles work for you, what forms the foundation of a business wardrobe for a woman?

    Thanks!

As far as mass produced stuff: My sis who works in a "business enviroment" and swears by tactical pants. She also has a pair of cove boots. They've lasted for years and I'm sure they will last for many more.

I use to cocktail, before I bartended and 4" heels weren't that bad. I actually prefer higher, but that's bc/s I have a high arch. You might look into an arch support if high heels hurt, but for some ppl. they always do. I've seen a lot of nice flats out too.

As far as business atire -I have had 4 suits for many (8-10) years and I paid $150-300 for each. I think women try to skimp bc/s of style and if you're going to expect quality; pay for it. I knew when I bought them they were an investment. I bought basic colors a navy, a black suit (skirt & jacket) and also a black and a gray pants suits. I sew so I looked for things that indicate quality (well put together, nice quality fabric that draped properly, french seaming, and strong seams with no puckers) and I brought them to a dry cleaners and had them professionally altered by their seamstress (several times over the years). As far as shirts I usually buy men's shirts and just have darts added.

If you're starting a wardrobe I'd pick up a basic black OR navy dress, jacket, straight skirt that hits the knee cap, and a pair of black pants.
