namaste, soon I will be taking my second trip to india and am very excited and was wondering where would be best area for me to visit? The first time I went to every village from deli to hardwar hitchhiking and there was a huge festival where pilgrims would take ganga water and carry it from hardwar to deli walking and sometimes running. It was like a marathon for the spiritual. Does anybody know the name of it. I know there is some great souls on this forum that must have some good ideas. I think this time I would like to see alot more nature and forests if that is at all possible. Also my hair is really long this time and I heard that some people go there and get thier hair chopped off maybe for cleansing purposes. could that might happen to my lovely locks? I would love to hear ideas.
I know Sri Ramana had his hair shaved off and beard cut at certain times of the year. More knowledgeable members will know the exact date and occasion. You could go to http://www.arunachala.org/ where Sri Ramana spent most of his years. Sure Bhaskar has visited Arunachala.
If you want to chop your hair then I can suggest you visit the richest hindu temple in the world They will give you a haircut for free -the tirupathi devasthanam in south india in andhra pradesh http://www.tirumala.org/ and rest of the country go where it takes you the possibilties are endless but you might want to check out http://www.incredibleindia.org
Thanks, and the last thing I want to do is chop my hair. I am starting to look like a sadu, haha jahbless mike
Looking a sadhu is woefully meaningless, unless you can translate it into your heart and live like one. Yes, Arunachala is a good destination. I also suggest the state of Kerala if you want forests. It has some beautiful ancient temples and rainforests. Another good place to go is Himachal Pradesh, especially the Dharamsala area (which is where I grew up). It is very pleasant, very spiritual. But remember, wherever you go, it is not the place that is beautiful, it is your reaction to it that makes it so. Remember the lord always and everything becomes a source of bliss. Siyaramamaya sab jag jaani karaun pranam jori jug paani. Tulsidasji says - Knowing the world to be imbued with Sita and Rama (as the water in tea is imbued witht he flavor of the leaves) and so I offer my pranams with flded hands to one and all. Enjoy your journey!
thanks bro baskar, I know my hair doesn't mean didly to how I feel but what I do feel raidiates on the outside and this is how I am looking. you see. I am doing research today and I wiill be checking out the places you speak of. I really liked hardwar and am being drawn back there. It's one big party! maybe to the kumbh mela I go.
