Check NEMESIS profile.. it's a link to an Amsterdam map with all (?) the coffeeshops there.. just look for the location of your hotel and you'll be able to pinpoint the nearest coffeeshop :)

my favourite coffeeshop is hill street blues, in RLD. i know it can be a bit cheesy and touristy, but it has good memories for me and i can sit there for hours looking out the window watching the world go by, and scribbling on the tables of course. and there hill street special isn't bad. they'll also sell you huge amounts of weed if you ask nicely (although they wont let you sit in there with it on you)
Velvet, those tasty skins are such a let down. they taste if you put them in your mouth and eat them, but not if you smoke them! (and why would you be doing that?)

low grade? I know you dont mean americans, if you do get a clue, willy was an american, and on behalf of the folks at berkley your welcome.
I'd match the closet weed on the streets here against any kind of comercial, kind or not. alot of us are acustumed to one hit wonder, take one hit, wonder where your keys are wonder where glasses are, wonder where the munchies are..

Skizate, ask your hotel clerk about the #2 tram line that almost runs along the South edge of Vondelpark ( not the #16 that runs in front of your hotel). It's about 2 blocks from the hotel. The #2 will take you to Leidseplein, the closest concentration of cool coffeeshops. From Nemesis's map at http://www.amsterdamer.supanet.com/ ...Leidseplein is at the very bottom. The most popular shops there are Rookies, Rokerij and Noon. You'll need a transportation pass available at the white two story looking, red tiled roofed building out in front of Centraal Station which allows use to anywhere in Amsterdam 24 hours a day or you'll be walking a lot since it's about a 45 minute walk from Centraal Station to your hotel. If you stay out after 12:30 AM the 358 Schiphol nightbus stops behind the Royal Palace at Dam Square, Leidseplein, and at the Concertgebouw about 2 blocks from your hotel.
