I am not a full time barefooter. I try to be barefoot as much as possible though. Lately, the only time I ever wear shoes, is while I am at work. I wear flip flops most of the time, but sometimes, Closed Toe shoes are required. (Not too often though)

Anyway, I kinda find that the more I am barefoot, the less of a sensation it is. Any of you feel that way?

I used to hate feet, and I never ever took of my socks. I wouldn't ever go barefoot at all. I even slept with socks on. When I was about 15 or 16, I finally started to sleep barefoot. Sometimes.

I had a paranoia of letting anyone see my feet. And I didn't like the feel of being barefoot. I wouldn't even go swimming because of it.

I think I was like that because my feet are very feminine looking, they are identical to my Mom's feet.

Well anyway, I finally built up the courage to start going barefoot around the house, and even outside on the lawn sometimes, and the beach, with the warm wet sand.
I must say, it felt so amazing being barefoot. The textures, the temperatures, and everything else. It felt so good on my very soft flawless soles. Well, as the years went by, I was barefooting more and more as the time passed. This past year, I basically try to be barefoot as much as possible. I was able to be completely barefoot this whole weekend!! Awesome.

Anyhow, I take good care of my feet. I wash them all the time, and usually every other night, I put lots of lotion on them before bed to keep the skin nice and soft, and to prevent ugly cracks and stuff. My soles have built up some toughness through out time.

I just feel that now that I have been barefoot quite a bit, on a daily basis for a while, It just doesn't feel as good as it used to. I can still feel a great deal of texture, and temperature and stuff, but since my soles aren't like they used to be, the sensation of being barefoot is less invigorating as it used to be. Kinda bums me out. I still love being barefoot very much so, but I am afraid that the more and more I do it, as the years come, It might not be exciting at all any more.

    Anyone else feel like this?

Well, I used to despise feet, too. And some of the weirder foot fetish things still creep me out (footjobs, toe sucking, etc.), but your feet are just getting desensitized. It happens.

I don't see it as such a bad thing, though. Eh well.

A loss of sensitivity is to be expected. Don't let it discourage you. Try to find as many varieties of textures and temps as you can. The same hiking path will feel differently after a rain storm than it feels when it's dry and dusty. I enjoy walking with my eyes closed and tuning in to all my other senses. The sensitivity is not gone it's only turned down in volume. Try some new areas for your barefooted hikes and keep exploring natures beauty.

Even though I've been barefooting for several years, I still find the "soul" in my soles. It's still and probably always be a very sensous expereince. You might want to try and explore some different kinds of surfaces, soft mud is one of my favorites!

I can vouch for those feelings of being embarrassed when barefoot, it was an issue for me too, and nice to hear you overcame it! Actually, I found out that it's quite common, a lot of people are embarrassed on what God has given them. To my dismay, after searching on the web, there is very little information about this kind of phobia.

Well it might not be an all too important issue, I feel it's a good idea to rid yourself the fear of being barefoot. As you go through life those sticky little situations seem to pop up some way or another where you might have to remove your shoes and socks and go barefoot.

Yeah, I understand that it's normal. It doesn't discourage me, but it just kinda sucks. I guess everything is like that though. Totally great at first, then it just gets plain feeling.
Oh well, just wanted to see if anyone else was bothered by it.

I've had that feeling a few times. What worked to get rid of it for me was going places without my shoes that I hadn't gone before. When going to the nearby grocery store started to get too ordinary, I went barefoot in the local shopping mall. And I guess it helps that since I don't go barefoot in public every day I don't get too de-sensitized.

I said something about this recently in another thread,I do believe...I would like to experience that first time barefoot feeling. So many people on here are amazed by it,and it does sound nice. I've been going barefoot for so long, since I was just a kid,and I don't get that overwhelming feeling from it...it's became the norm to me,in a way.

BTW Fangz, that's an interesting website you have! I enjoyed looking through it..

No, all their factories are in China, where they force young children to make shoes for a crap pay.
Boycott Nike, they're full of shit.

(Yes, I do know you were joking, but I had to take advantage of the post... :D )

Eh? I live in the Netherlands, haven't worn shoes for 8 1/2 years, and I never run into any trouble. Far less than those who live in the US, in fact. A couple times cops stopped me for whatever reason and asked me if I were okay and stuff, but they certainly never arrested me (nor would they arrest someone who was homeless, btw, unless they were also causing a problem somehow). Yes, people sometimes think I'm crazy or homeless but mostly they seem to be concerned about silly stuff like whether I'm not cold or anything. And there are no signs banning barefooters from stores.

If my memory serves me right, I believe I saw your post in another thread, which inspired me to post this topic.

I haven't been going barefoot for a long period of time, but the past three months or so, I have done it every single day. With the exception of work, and a couple nice restaurants. I have walked on several textures, and surfaces, it still does feel great, but certainly not the same as when I first started to be barefoot. It is normal to me now, probably the same as it is to most of you all.

Thanx for the compliment about my website!! I have a great topic in there about barefooting! Hope you got to read it.:)

Keep taking care of them! I do all the same things as you. I wouldn't let their being feminine bother you. I've noticed for those of us who are bf a lot, that the sun is a great equalizer---the color tone, even the tan, looks great on both genders.

Fortunately for me, I've discovered the contradiction I heard so much about some years ago; that is, while we toughen up to rough surfaces, we also sensitize to different textures, feel, "taste" of all we walk on. I remember wondering how this could possibly be, but it's true, at least for me. I notice what I'm on all the time, and most of it, (not quite all of it) is very nice indeed.

I really feel bad that this country benefits from products made overseas by kids that work in horrible conditions. Our country should not tolerate our companies making stuff over there when the workers are treated so poorly because when we accept stuff that is made over there and our citizens buy such things then we are just fueling more of the abuse thats going on over there. This country should really demand that our companies either clean up their act over there or move all their facilities back over here so that we can have more control over how their workers are treated so that our country does not benefit from the suffering of others. Especially just to have something dumb to wear like shoes. Id rather go barefoot if it meant that somebody over in that other country wouldnt suffer anymore. Sure it costs more to make things here but at least nobody suffers because of it.
