Anyone have any recipes for celery? I have eight stalks left and it's starting to get limp, so I'd rather not throw it out. Bright Blessings! Aphrodite Pretty
Hey I just cut up the rest of the celery I had and added it to a blended can of chickpeas added some mayo and black pepper, and had it in a sub roll for lunch and it was soooooooooo yummi! I thought I'd miss chicken salad when I went veggie, but thank god for the veggies on this site that told me about this recipe you could make a soup or put some peanut butter on it and eat it like that. hmmmm I can't think of anything else right off the top of my head but you could type 'celery' in the serch bar on vegweb.com and see what recipes pop up
Celery is cool, because it has "negative" calories. Well, it has regular calories, but then it takes even more to digest it because I guess it's so fibrous. So, the net calorie amount is negative. So... instead of exercise, you could just veg out on the couch eating celery! Ha! Too bad I don't like the taste of it yet.
yeah it isnt that good for you though... healthier than any animal product? definatley, but its far from ideal for the health conscious person.
Yeah my Mum does that with stews and such. Can't stand the stuff myself. So give my share to the rabbits (before it's cooked obviously).
ummm.....actually its been proven to be very benefical for us! Its a good source of vitamin C, its very rich in potassium, it contains plenty of the essential amino acids methionine, cystine, and tryptophan, plus lots of vitamin A and B-complex, calcium, phosphprus, iron, magnesium, manganese, iodine, and copper! During the middle ages, celery was used as a diuretic and laxative. It was also effective for breaking up gallstones, healing wounds, and soothing irritated nerves. Modern science has dicovered a few more valuable benefits. Celery juice aids in treating respiratory ailments such as asthma and bronchitis, and in studies conducted on people, its active constituent, coumarin, lowered blood pressure by up to 14% in patients with hypertension. (one patient went from 158/96 to 118/82 after one week of eating 1/4 pound of celery per day!) Studies have shown its effective in helping prevent colon and stomach cancers. Kidney and liver disorders respond well to celery juice treatments. Gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and rheumatism are all eased by celery, and it has been used successfully to stimulate a weak sexual drive. Celery juice taken before a meal also curbs appetite and is, therefore, a natural diet aid. Also because of its calming effect on the central nervous system, celery makes a great night-time tonic for insomniacs.
