so i'm taking this asian philosophy class b/c im all into buddhism. so i went to the bookstore to look for some books. in the religion section they had two big bookshelves, probably about 25 shelves in all. 24 of those shelves were devoted to catholicism. wtf? i realize that there are a hell of a lot of catholics, but come on! the last thing i need is a discriminatory bookstore...

    discriminatory?

hey dude, it's business. maybe the store makes a killing selling books on catholicism. no one's gonna keep trying a bunch of literature on buddhism if no one buys it; people gots to eat, right.

if you're looking for a particular book, it's usually very easy for a store to order it in for you. i do it all the time. otherwise try borrowing from the library or ordering online.

    :D

    Try Daltons bookstore.

Or Barnes an Noble.com, Amazon.com. Search for used books first as they are cheaper by far.

That's odd. I actually found a Borders or Barnes and Noble (whatever; can't keep em straight) that was overloaded with books on religion with Christianity as the minority. And this was in suburban Philly.

that is the problem with 99% of businesses. they look for money rather than pride, dignity, and a quality business. look at ford. they cut corners to save $0.05 per vehicle, and ended up recalling all of those vehicles. which, in the end, costed more than if they had used the proper parts in the first place.

You cant expect someone to sell things that almost nobody buys.

i understand what you're saying, but bad quality product isn't the same as not carrying certain product at all.
for example, ford could make shitty cars, and that's bad business. but, ford could decide against selling [insert car type here]s because very few people are interested in that type. that's fair business.
so it sucks if your local bookstore doesn't carry your interests, but they're allowed to carry whatever they want to carry. if you think there's a market for asian philosophy literature, perhaps you should open up a store full of that topic and see how far your business gets. :)

    peace!
