I just have never liked eating meat. My parents have their own word to say about it... No matter what we have there is somekind of meat with it. Thats all they make. The only way I can leave the table is if Ieat a piece. If I don't they start to yell. Joy. Over the years I've learned to cook my own food with out using butter and what not. I still eat cheese and have milk, only rarely.

I'm the youngest in a family of four. Everyone but me is over 200 pounds. I'm a nice 120 and freakishly strong. My favorite food is Peas with a Baked Potato. Theirs, a Lemmon Porkloin. I'm the only one in my whole family and both my mom's and dad's side thats a vegetarian.

In school I've saved 3 kids from being morbidly obease(is that how you spell it?). They saw what I was eat then looked at what they were, then stoped. They now are no longer morbidly obease, but down to a nice 170. I've had a hard life of judgment from being a vegetarian, but that'll never stop me.

    Great to meet you :)

That's wonderful about helping those other kids, literally saving their lives. No mean feat.

You have such admirable strength of conviction, good luck for the future.

uh oh here comes a rant.

I agree with you and it bothers me all to hell when people can NOT understand why I'm thin. I have went vegan a year ago or abouts-- and I'm still losing some weight-- the daily comments from my mother such as, "Youre losing so much weight, you have no tummy, are you eating?" I just want to shake her and scream, "I EAT A TON, BUT I EAT HEALTHY!!!!" I don't see how people can NOT understand that...
Meanwhile, the same people are going on fad diets like the atkins diet, and the south beach diet, and slim fast... sure some lose weight, but they usually end up gaining it right back--

The same atkins fanatics think Im somehow a freak of nature because Im literally addicted to carbs--- rice, pastas, wheat bread, etc... and they wonder how I stay thin. The problem is not in carbs, empty calories etc--- to me, its all about the fats found in animal products.

I love being vegetarian, it's the best decision I've ever made, imho. Veganism, that is a goal I have for the future. DH and I have made the decision to let our children choose their diet, but I'm going to have vegetarian pregnancies when and if I get pregnant.

    Bright Blessings!

The problem with people going on diets is that when they finaly do, they'll mostlikely just switch from what they normaly eat to something different. The body can't handle it. Just gradualy change and then they'll get the weight down.

I also love being vegetarian. It's also the most strongest conviction I have ever made in this life, other than that god is something spectacular. And just by looking around is truth of that.

i love it, i think it has changed my life, i have lost a ton of weight ever since i became one, the only reason i am still a little chunky is cause of the sweets my parents keep in the house, but they are stopping that i have encouraged them and they are going totaly organic, my mom read "natural cures they dont want u to know about" and she hooked with organic, so now ill lose the rest of my weight im so excited!!! :)

Thats wonderful about helping those other kids lose weight! I've been vegitarian for a little over 8 months now, and it's the best thiing I've ever done for my body!

I'm hoping to go vegan eventually, but my parents refuse to let me go vegan. I tried going vegan once, but it turned out that my parents would slip bits of cheese and such into the vegan recipies I gave them... [IMG]

Ever since I went vegitarian I've gone from near-obesidiy to a healthy weight! And unlike all the other dieting I've tried I've actually been able to keep the weight off!

Last week though, Im went on vacation with my friend, my friends friend, and my friends family. My friend and her friend were both over 250lbs! Yet when I looked at thier diets I figured out why. The whole time I was on vacation I suffered constipation and severe stomach cramps. I had brought along veggie burgers and some of my own food, but I figured that theyd have at least some decent food thatI could eat. I was wrong. They had mac&cheese, hamburger helper, french fries, cookies, white bread, and potatoe chips. No vegtables! No fruits! No nutritional foods! I eat a LOT more than both of the girls I was with, yet I weigh over 80lbs less than them. Before I started to get sick from thier crappy diet, they seemed baffeled by how much I ate and how thin(if you'd call it that...) I was, but really it was WHAT I ate in an average day(at home at least) that made all the difference! Eating 2 bowls of broccli and drinking 3 cups of unsweetened chamomile tea and a cup of organic soymilk is a lot different than eating a bowl of mac&cheese and drinking a cup of kool-aid. One thing that baffled me about these girls is how they could live on such a diet, and how they could actually consider salt-filled sunchips and ultra-sweetened granola bars 'health food'.

Becoming vegan has given me more energy, but surprisingly, I haven't lost any weight like you guys. I want to though.

My mom is really annoying. She's an omni, but she has an eating disorder that she tries to inflict on me. If I even go into the kitchen she gets mad at me, and she's always bribing me to lose weight. She's constantly on my ass about having too much carbs, etc.(ie. veg burger on whole wheat bun or something) -but if I mention to her that an animal was tortured to make what's on HER plate she gets really defensive.
One time she designed up a diet for me (not unvegan, but a list of things I can't eat), and she was bribing me with $500 to do it until I lose ten pounds.
Since I don't care much for money, I told her that instead of for money, I would do her diet IF she would eat vegan for the same amount of time.
She said okay, but then she was really immature about it the whole time, and constantly complained. So, anyway she didn't last 24 hours. When we were at a restaurant and she thought I wasn't looking, she started scarfing down my brother's ice cream. Then I pointed it out to her, and she tried to play dumb.

Hmm, I'm not sure what the point I was originally trying to make was. But in conclusion, my mom's an ass.

I have also been a vegetarian all my life, my parents are veggies and i just became a vegan.
I'm loosing weight, slowly, and my mum reckons that my eczema looks beter too.
    It rules!
People do judge, they think that you must be some kind of radical, non-conformist, weirdo. wait, i AM!
anyway, im getting so much stick because SOMEONE let slip that im a vegan at school and i didnt want them all to know, you know? i just wish theyd go die of clogged arteries or something! Ha Ha, im not that mean, really! we each have our opinions and my opinion is that eating animal products is exploitative and cruel.
My parents are real supportive of me. my dads all 'im so proud of you for forming your own opinion, its really great!'
    well, i guess i rock!
