Today show .. flip flops dangerous while driving

There was a quick segment on the NBC Today show (saturday 6th) that said a British report said that driving while wearing flip flops is very dangerous. They didn't say exactly why, but they did enterview an American that said she "almost" had an accident wearing flops and the sole got caught between the clutch pedal and her foot and she couldn't get loose. (what a dumb ass she is). Another interview with a senior citizen said she was hit by another driver who said the accident was caused by her flip flops. (how stupid are these people ?)

They did interview a CHP (California Highway Patrol) officer and he said he didn't know of any accidents caused by flip flops and then said there is NO LAW against wearing flip flops while driving OR DRIVING BAREFOOT, or even wearing high heals, jsut use common sense.

 

If i dont have shoes on and am wearing flipflops or sandals, i drive barefoot, just for reasons like that. I dont feel safe driving with flipflops or sandals on so i barefoot it.

 

My right flip flop came off and went under the brake pedal once while driving. I was getting ready to stop and noticed some resistance, in a sudden panic, I swept it away and thankfully was able to stop in time. Whew!!!!!

From now on I kick them off before I take to the road.

i drive in BArefeet... flipflops are verry dangerous.. in the past i have injured my self pritty bad wearing the damn things...so its always bareffoot for me

 

I wear flipflops/sandles in the car any time that I'm not barefoot (i/e when the ground is cold and wet [just wet, not cold is fine]), and you REALLY have to force it in there to get the break/gas whatever pedal between your foot and the sole of the sandle... It doesn't just ease in there unless they're way too big. So if it was caught there, she put it there herself and it was her fault.

 

I don't like driving with flip flops on, they slip around too much.. So I just take them off to drive.

 

only managed to get a flip flop caught on the clutch once...and i've been driving a 5 spd for two and a half years, most of the time either bf or in flipflips.
