Is anyone here into raw foodism? I've heard it's pretty good for you, so I'm trying it out. My brother's trying it too. I've just started so I haven't had any detox effects or anything, but I probably won't because I'm already a strict vegan. For anyone who doesn't know what raw foodism is--- it's when you only eat fresh, uncooked, unprocessed foods. Actually, I think most raw foodists go by eating at least 75% raw, and cook some things, and I think most of it is all organic. So, it's basically: uncooked fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, legumes, and mushrooms. Basically this is what human would eat if she was living in the wild anyway. I'm eating probably 75% raw (the cooked foods being tea, tofu, and homemade bread). Anyway, I'll let you guys know how it goes!
kafjkafj raw foodism is a beautiful thing, and i dip in and out of it constantly but im still very much addicted to unhealthy food. just changing your diet though makes me feel funky personally... like say ive been eating processed foods or some pancakes or somethhing cooked one night and the next day i just go raw, it just doesnt feel right. its all about the balance and flow and raw foodism is about finding that balance within yourself, even if your not completley raw. its learning to be in tune with yourself... like for example with my experiences i have always found a mixture of cantaloupe and blueberries to be very rejuvenating and healing to my body. say im really tired and have been for a really long run, if i go home and just sit down and eat that slowly and chew it well, i will be back on my feet in no time whereas if i came home and had some veg chili i would have been even more tired having to digest all that stuff. maybe you have a certain healing food too? of course this could go back to simple body science and im sure it would help to actually learn about raw foodism, but i just try to feel everything out cuz i dont feel particularly called or compelled to learning alllll about raw foodism at this point in my life, but im sure its some amazing stuff. its just about recognizing that the food you eat is verrry much like drugs and they effect you way more than you think you do, and paying attention to that and learning to use it to your advantage... because it really can give you an advantage over many things, just the way drugs can sometimes. i would recommend looking into fasting though and it keeps you so much more motivated to eat right or not eat anything at all, and it makes the changes in your body flow so much smoother i think. even if your strict vegan i think your body will still have some detoxing to do. vegan food is not equal to health food though its muuuch better than omnivoreish food.. i wish you much luck though and i hope you stick with it or at least learn enough about it to know its something you want to do eventually when the circumstances allow. or at least learn to eat a little better and live a little more balanced life. btw- sprouted grains and beans are considered raw too. you can also make nutmilk, and maaany other things that taste just like un-raw foods. raw burgers, raw pie, raw anytthing really, you'd be amazed.
I'm interested in trying raw foodism too. Though if that's the case, I will start off veeeeeery slowly. I don't want my body to react in a bad way to it. I'll watch what's being said here and consider it for after Sept. Bright Blessings! Aphrodite Pretty
"pretty good for you" is an understatement saying that most raw foodists go by eating at least 75% raw is like saying vegetarians go 75% without meat.. if you're gonna be raw you're gonna be.. raw aphrodite_pretty there's no reason to start out veerrrry slowly, i stopped eating cooked food in one day and i did detox off but it wasn't really that bad. the longer you go eating cooked food the longer you're keeping those toxins in your body from cooked food.. i really recommend to you guys 'nature's first law: the raw food diet' being raw gives you an amazing feeling, you have a lot more energy and you can derive a lot more energy from what food you do eat. i can get enough energy from a banana for the whole day
Nature's First Law. That book. It has some excellent, excellent information, but there is no need to call people moronic or stupid for not being raw. You can't berate people and tell them how idiotic they are and then expect them to just change. There is way too much hostility in that particular book and in RC Dini's Raw Courage World. David's Wolff's Sunfood Diet System is even better than Nature's First Law and it's more encouraging. He does actually say in that one to go at least 80% raw and then work up to 100%. You want to go raw after reading that. Not everyone can just go raw overnight, especially those who don't have the time to relax when detox hits. I have some ebooks from thegardendiet.com that I would be happy to share with anyone.
yeah raw foodism is a major life decision i think, not something we could all do and handle right away. not totally raw foods, it takes devotion, but its so worth it. i know what you mean though about being set after having a banana for a day.. i feel like ive aten enough food for my body to go without any food for the rest of the year or something. but i disagree that you have to be totally raw to be raw... if i fast or go raw for a day and eat say a bowl of cereal towards the end, i still feel very raw and dont feel like i lost much ground. its when i have cereal or something similar for nearly every meal of the day that i lose my raw energetic status. thats been my experience anyway....also, if you just eat more raw and healthy foods, i think you will consequently feel a little better and energetic and a little more balanced.
exactly, i can't agree more.. i also think the authors are way too into power.. they talk too much about how much power they have and how i think they mentioned once you can use it to get revenge on someone.. something like that if you take out their opinions and just state the facts though, about cooked food and raw food.. it's a good book
hey, I tried it a while back And I did after a month or so, get some detox effects and I was hard but I didn't stick to being a raw foodest. I think I just like food to much. I suggest to anybody that wan'ts to do this, that they do A colon cleanse which takes a couple of weeks . I am happy being a vegan. Alot of raw foodest that I have met are kind of wierd and think they are better than me becouse of thier far superior diet. Well I don't know why seeing I got muscles bulging out of my clothes. jahbless
I have a question -- If you are a raw foodist, does that mean that you cannot prepare foods with water? I'm thinking beans and rice and such, things that you can soak and then eat without having to cook. I'm a little sketchy on that part. Bright Blessings! Aphrodite Pretty
i go in out of the rawist diet as well. i dont know if i could ever do it all the time, 100%... but, whilst I do decide to eat raw, i feel great. i feel light, energetic, and awake. i have major issues with sleep, and when i eat raw i tend to sleep better, and wake up easier...and stay awake. thats a big deal to me, because my sleep issues get really out of hand and annoying.
yeah, true. soaked things are a good way to deal with some of the harshness associated with the raw foods diet. soaked almonds, for example, make em lighter on the stomach. me personally, i've done a ton of experimenting. i've found that strictly raw 'ruffage' foods are quite difficult to digest; they're not even too easy to digest slightly cooked. i agree that it's just fine to be partially raw, as i am. i don't think my body could really handle all that raw food, almonds for example, are a little rough. i also believe that i am a 'cold' person - slow circulation, anytime there's a pain it tends to be centered in my tummy as gas, generally cold, plus i'm small and little. i've read in a couple books (the herbal guide, for one) that people with lots of 'cold' energy should take it slowly with raw foodism because our bodies really appreciate the warmth. in the winter, there's nothing like a nice cup of tea or soup. so i take it in moderation.
I tried again today, and I ate mostly raw but I couldn't go all the way, because I had such a bad tofu craving!
