Staying awake is sometimes a problem when meditating. Some of the suggestions I've collected are: 1. Creating slight discomfort by turning down the thermostat. 2. Not meditating in a chair or place where you sleep. 3. Don't lay down. I want to have a few more helpful suggestions for my site. How do you stay awake? Thanks in advance for any tips. those are all very good suggestions... there are a few meditations i do that require laying down though... hmmm well, suggestion that i can think of would be not to have caffeine a few hours before hand.... *because it makes you crash later* and um, i dunno... to be well rested/
I practice in a Tibetan tradition and we are taught to meditate with our eyes open, but with our gaze softened and directed downwards. I've never had a problem with falling asleep with eyes open...
all good ideas - also to be considered is that your body may be telling you to get more sleep - I have only had that problem a few times - when I do I get up - sit somewhere else and try to think about what I need right then - maybe there is something that I forgot to take are of before I started my meditation - maybe I just need a drink of water - that’s my way - for what it is worth
not excercising or moving enough could also cause some discomfort too probably... diet and health play a pretty big role in these things i think.
Hmm I find that drinking a fair amount of tea before hand keeps me alert enough to be able to meditate on my bed late at night without succombing to sleep It is green tea i drink and they do say some teas, such as sencha fukujyu etc are very useful for meditation and are used by the Japanese (monks?) to aid meditation
well i medit and if u put on soft music like an heart or something that will make u feel relaxed and awake and as well if u put your hands in front and then breath in for 5 secs and hold for 5 secs and then breath out for 5 secs that will keep u awake and relaxed try it peace up man xxx bee xxxx
yes, same here. meditating with the eyes closed only seems (for me) to lead to half-dreaming, or eventually sleeping. i use relaxed, open eyes. i also never lay down. it's interesting to hear about how others have been taught; do many people meditate with closed eyes in here?
