I'd have to say George. I think they all had good solo careers, but I prefer his music personally. Paul was a too soft and commercial for me, and John was a bit too far out. And some of Ringo's stuff is ok.
In commercial terms definitely Paul . He went on to score many number one hits in the 70s/80s with 'Mull of Kyntyre' & 'Ebony & Ivory' etc. John struggled badly & allowed radical politics to stifle his commercialism. He made it to number one in the 70s in America with: 'Whatever Gets U Thru The Night'.In the 1980s he posthumously went to number1 with 'Imagine' & 'Woman'. Ringo just carried on being sociable & affirmable Ringo. I am interested that you should choose George. In a way I agree with you.He had one sizeable hit 'My Sweet Lord' which was plagarised from: 'He's So Fine' by the Chiffons.Nonetheless he set up a Film Company 'Hand-Made Films' which helped finance the Monty Python Films. Myself I'd say Paul but George is a very close second.
I'd have to say George to. All of the Beatles did well on their own but George was my favorite. I loved All Things Must Pass and the Bangledash thing he did with Bob Dylan. Paul seems a bit commercial, Ringo was okay and John was the most controversial I think George was the more spiritual minded of the Beatles.
Definitely Paul. I love All Things Must Pass, but everything else George did after that is pretty much dust in the wind... John had some great songs, but nothing really cohesive to me. Paul's first two albums are great. Especially Ram! Which is a wonderful album. His stuff with Wings was pretty good too... Commerical? Yes, maybe.. but great songs nevertheless.
i without a doubt pick John. jealous guy is such a good song, i love it. and instant karma is amazing. john was working for peace in his music and you could feel it. everytime i hear him i can feel his energy and how pumped up he was to just simply have everyone get along and love each other. he died working for what he believed in.
Paul was easily the most successful out of the 4, and I like his solo stuff the best. People bash his music because its "commercial-sounding," well you know what, so were The Beatles. LizardQueen, have you heard George's Gone Troppo? By far the single worst album put out by all the solo Beatles.
Pauls work with Wings puts him at the top, and the fact that even today his albums are good or better. I really think John, if he would have lived longer, would have bested Paul. George had some good stuff, and Ringo is more of a jokey type of nostalgia act, so it's Paul.
Paul was the most succesful, but WINGS was an awful band...George had that horrrible single in the 80's, that just repeted its self over and over...what was hat song called? anyway, i thnk John's career was the most powerful, with songs like "Imagine"...but, i know this sounds sick, but his death saved him from butchering his music like Paul and George and Ringo.
"This Is Love" was that horrible song, and I agree with that death statement. But John did release Sometime in New York City, which wasn't exactly a good album. And even before John's death, George released 33 & 1/3, Dark Horse, and Extra Texture and all of Ringo's releases except for Ringo and Good Nite Vienna were pretty bad. So if you don't want to consider albums that were released after John was killed, Paul still wins.
John, for sure. His music really meant something. I agree he had some disgusting songs (with a very strong political message, but badly written *cough* Bring On the Lucie *cough*) but he released some amazing ones too. Imagine, Give Peace A Chance, God, War Is Over, Instant Karma, Jealous Guy, Love, Stand By Me, Watching The Wheels, Working Class Hero...
Haha, I think you might be talking about "I Got My Mind Set On You". It's not the best stuff, but if you want something that's just ear candy, it's a good song. But hey, it was the 80's, everyone sucked.
I think Johns interviews in the seventies were more entertaining than his music, that said Mind games and Walls and Bridges are brilliant and undervalued albums. Ram is the best Beatle solo album solo album and Venus and Mars, London Town and Flowers in the dirt are great as is McCartney.
Ringo What other beatle got anything like Barbara Bach? Add to that the fact that Ringo has been able to be happy his whole life, unlike any of the other lads, and that makes his career tops. nuff said
for personal choice i would say george he was gorgeous when he had his beard....and a really good musician and song writer..but in all honesty it would have to be paul who has had the most successful solo career
