Ok I can see poetry if you writing it just for the hell of it , or for a contest or something but for like a love poem thats kinda weird don't you think? Today I don't think girls are into that?> What you think?
as in everything, it depends on the one recieving it.... the ability to weave your thoughts into a beautiful tapestry of words and images is a gift and i personally admire those that are able to do it.
Poetry in the traditional sense is pretty much a dead form, something to be studied as part of literary history. I tend to groan when I see poems written in styles that were relevant 200 years ago ... there's really nothing left to say in that mould, so unless it does something new with the form I find poetry quite pointless and irrelevant except perhaps for a cute little rhyme on a birthday card.
Hm, maybe you need evaluate the concept of art? By your logic, anything that doesn't serve a practical purpose is null and void. If people aren't able to funnel their emotions into abstract creation, we'd be left in a nightmarish cultural wasteland (yknow one worse than the one we currently live in). Think about that shit, man.
I'd be psyched if a guy wrote me a poem then I'd drive him insane trying to revise it... force of habit I think your question has to do with the cheap, throwaway kind of poetry so sadly prevalent in pop culture today. Many people think that just because some words are fit into a form, or rhyme, they are poetry. Real poetry has multiple levels of meaning, literal and abstract. The goal of real poetry is to transcend language and become as intangible yet real as thought. Real poetry is serious business. It is not easy to know how to write or interpret a real poem -- poetry is a language that must be sought in order to master. In order to write poetry, one must practice extreme mental organization and have absolute command of all nuances of human emotion. Poetry isn't supposed to be easy to read, it must be interpreted. It's too bad more people don't take the time to learn how to understand poetry... it is concise, broad and overreaching, pregnant with meaning. Poetry is one of, if not the most potent form of communication humans have ever invented. And in the light of all this current political and cultural upheaval, it is more relevant and valuable than ever as a way to bridge the gaps between human understandings.
^ poetry is art, and you should not place restictions on it, It is done for the enjoyment of the reader and the expretion of the auther. it need not be deep or complex, it need only be done
i write poems for girls all the time! not necessarily LOVE poems but... beauty poems i guess is a better way to classify it. usually they dig it too, but maybe that's because i only would give them to girls i know have the type of personality who would dig it...
It "need only be done" if the author is not serious about it. Serious poetry can only be written with obsessive attention and the absolute knowlege of a subject. Just (and especially) because poetry is art, a poet has no excuse for sloppiness, missed opportunities, or overindulgence. Precision and expert perception count heavily in good poetry. Anything else is just guessing.
lighten up little sister, if you are dedicated to the craft then i most certainly agree, and i must say i do enjoy your work, and a part of that is your profetionelizem, however if you are simply useing it to express yourself then express away good , bad, im the guy with the gun... ash
"Poetry is the language in which man explores his amazement. It is the language in which he says heaven and earth in one word...And if you accept my proposition that reality is altogether different from our stale view of it, we can say that poetry is the language of reality." ~Christopher Fry I like that view of poetry more Also, I'm kinda glad more guys don't know how much girls like poetry, lol
