I thought so. I'm sure I've heard him DJ somewhere.
Not overly familiar with his work though.

(blimey, this forum is busy at this moment all of a sudden, LOL)

Rap is not one of my things, but yeh, your right
it's all part of their act and publicity I guess.
Oh no, I seriously don't want to annoy you or
anyone else but Rap is my least favourite style
of music. To me it's like a ''fire alarm'', as soon as
it's played, I leave the building. lol

hehe.. well.. to each his/her own. I like it occasionally and I think that even if you don't like a certain genre, the more you are exposed to it the more you can start to see the differences between the songs. Personally I don't like the songs that only talk about 'ho's & sex'.. sadly these take up most of the populair mainstream songs. However, the rap songs about injustice, violence and true life on the streets have a certain appeal to me, because it touches a nerve with me.. I see people my age living like that so yeah, I identify a little with it, even if those songs are filled with stuff about 'niggaz and guns'.. it's the raw vibe of them that appeals to me.

What I fear is my temper, I subject to the center
    Right through a man's soul
Straight through his eyes, straight through his heart
I'm still alive how did I make it this far
'Cause I been high I been low, searchin' for a way to go
    Every single night I pray
And Lord I'm on this battleground, lost just waitin' to be found
    I guess it's just a warrior's way

    (NAS - Warrior Song)

Besides that, you have to admit that even though the meaning of the lyrics are often pretty shallow, there are great poets among the rappers, with an extraordinairy sense of rhythm, flow and feeling for words.

If you don't like the whole 'nigga' attitude then listen to stuff like Beasty Boys.. they're great :)

    Dip dip dive so socialize
Open up your ears and clean out your eyes
If you learn to love your in for a surprise
It could be nice to be alive

    (Beasty boys - alive)

Afro-Carribean music is fine or African tribal stuff
or some Reggae and Jazz music, etc, it's just that
rap stuff with attitude I don't particularly like.

Thought I better clear that up incase anyone
thought I was being ''Anti-social''. phew.!

I guess it all depends what sort of music one grows
up with. The very first song/tune I can ever recall,
when I was a little naughty boy, apart from nursery
rhymes, was a group called ''Kraftwerk''. I loved it
as there was nothing like it out there and fell instantly
in love with vocal-less, melodic and hypnotic rhythms
of which now has manifested itself into Trance music.
Another group was Abba, can you believe that, but I
grew up with the stuff, with my parents and all their
late night parties that me and my brother used to watch
form the top of the stairs late at night.

Kraftwerk.. hehe.. fahren fahren fahren auf die Autobahn.. hehehe.. great stuff.

My parents only listen to classical stuff.. so I was pretty much a blank sheet when it came to 'other music'. In highschool I was ofcourse fan of a boyband, but my real influence was The Velvet Underground at age 15 or 16.. love at first.. eh.. hearing :)

Now I listen to almost everything.. depends on the mood really.

I love classical too and yes, I'm not just a Trance music
freak, I know I bang on about it a bit here and there. oops;)

Obviously I've heard of the Velvet Underground but I can't
recall any of their stuff, but now you got me intrigued to
give it a listen. What would you say is their best quintessential
tune they have done or album, etc.

Oof.. you're asking me to choose between the songs? Ouch.. hehe ;)

Ehm.. I think their most famous is 'Heroin', so you might want to check that one out. Some people love TVU immediatelly, others have to get used to them and some will never get it.. my advice is to listen to it when you are not in a hurry and are in a nice quiet spot so you can really take in the music.

Here is a good website for their lyrics:

    http://www.alwaysontherun.net/velvet.htm

The first time I heard of them was when I was reading a book about a drug-addict in a rehab clinic who didn't understand that weed wasn't aloud there yet listening to The Velvet Underground was ok... hehe.. sparked my interest. A while after that I was sitting in the backseat of someones car.. he played 'the gift', which is like a 15+ minute long story.. great stuff, I fell in love head over feet :)

Don't listen to it very often though, because the music is kinda darkish and it can be a bit of a downer :)

I went out with a girl years ago who liked all the ''INDIE MUSIC'' scene.
At that time I was raving still, don't do it now though, I just still like
to listen to it in a chilled out way. Not all trance is ''BANG, BANG, BANG'',
some can be very sophisticated and relaxing stuff. oops, there I go
    again, talking about trance. LOL

Anyway, I will check out Velvet Underground for sure, no question
about it. I've also heard of The Gift too. I'll check the web site you
gave above and see if there is any free MP3's out there.
Great stuff Velvet, as always, your a star.
