My boyfriend is gaining weight, due to us smoking so much. I was wondering if there is anyway I can help his lose weight. Hes up to 300lbs. and I know he doesnt like it. I want him to be happy with him, and he feels so down about being fat. I really want to help him. Any advice, dieting costs too much.. please help.
atkins is a bunch of shit and everyone knows it! it can cause ketosis and a bunch of other problems. i think the pro-atkins propaganda is a bunch of SHIT. just my $0.02. i'm very opinionated. the person who suggested it, this girl is 17 and most likely her boyfriend is, too. atkins is NOT good for people who may still be growing. i'm sorry, i diet that tells you that you can't eat apples and bananas, but you can eat a pound of bacon with cheese, is a shitty diet and a SCAM. you can never make someone lose weight or want to lose weight. the only thing you can do is be proactive...what i mean by that is, start to slowly change your lifestyle to a very healthy one, thereby influencing him to change as well. and be supportive. example: start with small steps. start going on romantic walks together. although a slow walk doesn't burn a lot of calories, it is a step to getting your body ready for more vigorous exercise. when someone weighs 300 lbs they cannot just jump into a very rigorous exercise regimen. i've had experience with this as i've been pretty overweight before. ease into a routine together. also, start compiling healthy recipes and cooking them together. start shopping together and playing a game where the only things you can get are healthy things from the outer isles of the grocery store...that's where all the WHOLE foods are found: whole-grain bread, eggs, milk, fruits and vegetables, yogurt, cheese, cereals, meats...all the processed, high-sugar, high-fat content, empty calories, shitty foods are in the middle isles. remember to keep it fun and romantic. it will feel like less of a chore if you both get healthy together and make it fun. it will feel better for him if you join him in his quest to get healthy, even if you don't need to lose any weight. it will make you feel better to exercise and eat right, no matter what shape you're in. basically, don't make him feel singled out. don't eat a donut while he's eating a salad. good luck! it can be really hard to see someone you love have a bad body image and feel bad about themselves i hope everything turns out for the best
i will add this about atkins. i sounded very small-minded earlier. here's why i REALLY don't like atkins...for the pure fact that there are far too many rules to follow. the only rules to eating should be, pure and simple: 1.)when your body tells you it is hungry and needs food 2.)within the parameters of COMMON SENSE. eating should be sensible. you have to be a MORON to not know that eating a pizza, 2 big macs, a dozen donuts, and a box of oreos is NOT healthy. atkins is another one of those prescribed things you have to follow. eating should be a natural process and we shouldn't have to have books of rules to follow. we should indeed simply use our brains and good sense along with our instincts to know what we need to eat, when, and how much. there are too many "diets" out there and they train people to be like little rats running around in a maze, our minds in a chaotic, confused state of being, COMPLETELY ignoring our inherit ability to know what we need and when! you have got to admit, it is FUCKED how many diet plans claim to be "the one" when the only real "one" is the one NATURE gave us! THAT is why i hate the atkins diet. it is one of the many diets that requires you to follow a set of guidelines. do you think CAVEMEN had eating guidelines? NO! they fucking ATE because they were HUNGRY and needed to eat to keep LIVING! that's what we should do now.
This might sound silly, but I used to have an awesome time just walking around looking at things when I was high. For example, one night my friend and I walked around making rubbings of things (lay paper on something, rub a crayon over it). We did manhole covers, interesting tree bark formations... that kind of stuff. The world is a really groovy place... especially when a tad toasted. It's the munchies that are killing him, right? You get high, and eat 4 bags of chips.... BEEN THERE! Try making things that would be interesting to eat before you smoke up. Instead of drinking a 2L of Coke, make some ginger tea. Applesauce is fun to eat too... it feels awesome on the tongue. If you aren't veggies, you could try some lite jello with pineapple or something in it. Melba Toast with hummus.... carrot sticks with a balsamic dressing. I gained weight when I first started smoking... but then I started making food to have for when the munchies kicked in. And, I turned off the TV and started experiancing the outside world...
a lot of people actually lose weight from smoking. the point of a proper diet is that it costs less. you eat less food. eat bigger breakfast and dont bother with dinner. drink lots of coffee. not healthy, but can be very affective. but the point of diets is that you MUST suppliment them with more active lifestyle. if you diet but sit on your ass, your still getting fat, just slower.
**dieting costs too much..** Doesn't dieting usually mean that you're buying less food...seems like less food would cost less. If he eats when he's bored that why not go play frisbee or if ya live near a park go throw a basketball around for awhile. Good luck
stonerbill's advice isn't the most healthy. i wish you and your boyfriend good luck on the path to getting healthy
hi there i`m from holland and giving diet-tips for a long time now in the gym you have to take small portions and protein -rich food you have to eat like 6 time in 1 day in every meal you put protein, some carbs and veggies when you eat small portions you keep the fire burning and you will lose wheight i helped allready a lot off people and they lost kilo`s 1 lady was like 110 kilo`s and lost up to 20 kilo`s and she is not ready yet .....ohhh...and lot`s of disipline... maybe you can do some sports together? love...linda from holland
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! how could you reccomend such insanity? the atkins diet literally puts the body into kytosis, a state of poison and panic, not to say most americans bodies arent close to this state already but atkins is so fucked. plus, the atkins diet isnt permanent and requires too much bullshit and attention so it isnt gonna stick, just like the south beach diet or any other calorie counting bullshit isnt going to either. if you want to lose weight and stay thin, you gotta eat right and excercise, its just that simple. it really isnt hard at all once you make some very very simple changes..... turn him vegetarian if you want a diet that will help him lose weight and stick. its guided more out of love and not greed and is therefore easier to maintain because you stick to it for moral reasons as well. i lost 25 lbs unintentionally when i went vegan and it was easy as hell and i still eat so much good food. it blows my mind the hell people put themselves through to stay trim. tell him to try vanilla soymilk, no more dairy. it doesnt digest and makes you fat and constipated....that would be a GREAT step in the right direction along with eating less meat or more fake meats since these do not digest either but just sordove rot in your colon. this is why the usda or whoever are recommending everyone eat more whole grains, for fiber since meat has none. your diet should be made up of fiber, not none of it and then just supplementing it, humanities got a long way to go.
It's pretty simple, just take in less calories than you expend. And try to eat healthy food as well. So be more active or diet, or best bet, do both. And get proper nutrition.. Good amount of protein, lots of vitamins and crap, and tons of fiber. Best from natural sources, and eat as little processed crap as possible and drink tons of water. And when you're stoned, go do stuff, why waste it sitting around eating? Hell, get stoned and play some disc golf or somesuch.
diets don't work in the long run. people eat at a certain rate and that's all there is too it. if you want to lose weight TEMPORARILY then diets are perfect. otherwise, the person will lose a few pounds and then regain it at a later point. the reliable cure for being a fatass is to get up and start running.
Sigh... I feel for you. Everyone is going to have an opinion on the topic, but the truth of the matter is 1. The only diet that is going to work is one that you are going to stick to. 2. Diets don't work, you have to change for life, I know the phrase lifestyle change is thrown around a lot now, but it is true, you can't just stop eating certain foods for a short while, lose 10lbs then go back to eating those foods and expect to stay the same weight. It doesn't work that way. 3. You can't make him do anything that he is not ready to take charge of and handle himself. I know you want what is best for him, but he has to want what is best for him or he will not succeed. Trust me I'm going through something similar with my boyfriend, ironically enough, I'm a personal trainer and I help people with weight loss. But he simply won't listen to me, so there is nothing I can do. Now, if you really are both considering changing your eating habits I will be the first to tell you, no it is not easy. People who think it is easy probably have never had a weight problem or had to lose more than 5 vanity pounds in their entire life. It is hard work. You have to be conscious of what you are doing all of the time. You have to make decisions and try not to make exceptions or excuses. Every day, sometimes more than once a day you have to tell yourself, I'm worth it and I'm going to do this. However, while it isn't easy by any means, it does get less difficult as you progress. It is easy for someone to say, eat less calories than you expend, without explaining how. That is quite vague advice from someone who obviously does not understand the situation. Ultimately yes, you would want to consume fewer calories and increase your amount of activity. Let's break this down though. Think about how you can consume fewer calories. Think about when you and your boyfriend eat the most calories. Is it really because of smoking pot? (which I totally agree, we had to quit for that reason, and it made us lazy and forgetful) or are there other things in your lifestyle that contribute, perhaps lack of exercise or manual labor. Do you eat a lot of fast food? Or even out at restaurants? Do you have the facilities to cook at home (some people who have roommates and such can't cook at home)? You mentioned expense. Are you able to grow your own garden? Or do you know people who have a garden who can give you fresh fruit and veggies? Is there a food co op near you where you could get free food but work it off during the week? Are there stores like Super Wal-Mart near you where you can get things cheaper? Believe me I know how much it costs to eat healthy, but you have to decide if it is worth it to splurge on this, but perhaps give up something else. Which brings me to the pot. Have you tried to scale back some? When you smoke are you able to have healthy snacks prepared before hand to prevent you from over indulging on fattening foods? Then there is your exercise program to consider. Think of some things that you and he could do together, or some things that might not be so bad. Something you can afford that you really will stick with and do. Let me know what you are willing to do and I will try my best to help you. Send me a private message and we'll see what we can come up with together. I promise I won't make it crazy difficult to stick with, just a few simple changes to your daily routine and you will see an improvement in a few weeks. Take care, Jen
my bf and i smoke a lot too, but I'M the one that gained weight! my advice would be similar to some already mentioned. buy healthier foods and prepare stuff ahead of time. i know produce is expensive, so here's some munchie stuff i've been buying, and i am definitely loosing weight...: canned fruit is usually .99 each, and it cures munchies AND cottonmouth! applesauce, baby carrots, cereal (not lucky charms! look for frosted mini wheats, cheerios--i buy generic brands cuz it's waaay cheaper!), no-sugar-added ice pops, sherbert, frozen yogurt (turkey hill's is as yummy as ice cream!) Lays light potato chips and doritos (these are amazing) light or baked tortilla chips, salsa beef jerky (not slim jims, real beef jerky) chips ahoy and oreo "100 calorie packs" light popcorn (microwavable or otherwise) soup (most veggie or chicken based soup are pretty low fat...read the labels.) also bubble gum keeps mouth busy. weight watchers is a good diet that you can do pretty cheap. it's actually less of a diet, and more of just being aware of how much and what you eat. if you can find someone on it who can lend you the books, you're all set. if not, it's like $12 per meeting, but they give you all the info at the first meeting, so you can go to just one meeting, and follow it without going to any more meetings. look into it. it's worked for me before. i lost weight at a rate of 2-5 lbs per week, which is healthy and lets you keep it off. it also allows you to eat mostly whatever you want, you just have to keep track. also, if you eat the right stuff you can eat all day, or you can save up all your points for a big special dinner, depending on the day. when i was on it, i felt like all i thought about was food, planning meals and snacks, packing food for work, etc. so i guess that's why it worked for me. also, my skinny boyfriend ate most of the stuff i bought for weight watchers, so it may turn out you're eating healthier, too! i wish you two all the luck. it sucks having to watch your weight. peace.
