There's been talk lately about the possibility of the draft being reinstated, especially in the wake of a sharp drop in enlistments. Personally I don't think GWB will bring back the draft; while he doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about public opinion he's still well aware of the backlash that would result from such a harebrained action.

The only way I can see them getting away with a new draft is if there's another attack on the scale of 9/11.

Anyway that's my take on it, what's yours?

I don' think they will. They are more likely to leave it up to the Iraqis way too soon.

It's easy to say we won't see a draft.... until we experience another convenient 9/11-style terror attack, or worse -- which I think is only a matter of WHEN, not IF.

People just do not understand how governments use terrorism to their gain, and if they need more troops to fight their endless imperial wars, they will use terrorism to manipulate the masses and scare the people into accepting a draft. Again, it's called problem-reaction-solution. The government manufactures the problem, which creates the desired reaction in the bewildered people, who call for the government to offer their solution of what to do. Fear causes the people to place all their trust (as well as their rights and liberties) in the hands of the government, in the name of phony, so-called "security." In reality, it has nothing to do with security and everything to do with tyranny.

I am almost certain we will see a draft within the next 2-5 years. I am only basing this on what I see happening right now, along with how our government operates. Some of you people see the government as being far more benevolent than it is, and you shouldn't.

Dick Cheney has said the "war on terror" will be a war that will not end in our lifetimes. I don't understand why people are gullible enough to think it's all going to end with Iraq. The neocons have Syria, Iran and North Korea in their sights -- among others. I am convinced they will achieve these wars, no matter what it takes, and no matter how many lives will need to be sacrificed to meet the Elite's agenda.

And if they weren't preparing for a draft, they wouldn't have been in the process of filling the draft boards for the past two years.

And what about the recent agreement with Canada, to not allow draft dodgers into their country? Why this? Why now?

Anyway, Pressed Rat thinks there will be a draft and it will come after another horrific terrorist attack which will not actually be a terrorist attack but will be masterminded by our own government and its cronies in the new world order. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, does anyone else have an opinion on whether or not they'll reinstate the draft?

I don't believe it was masterminded by your/any goverments ..

http://hipforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1600608&postcount=5 plus a multitude of other reasons i have posted within these forums.. that i won't bore anyone with now.

I don't see a draft because this 'war' is completly different to Vietnam the last time a draft was called upon (a comparison like Bush=Hitler in its simplicity imho) . I agree with seamonster66, apart from the somewhat dismisive 'way to soon'.

It would easily have bipartisan support if (when) we are attacked again.

For anyone to bring back the draft at this day and age would be political suicide, by far the stupidest choice for any president to make, and we've had enough stupidity from Bush already...
